Today, the City of Griffin joins communities across the nation in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress. On June 9th, the City of Griffin Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed June 19, 2026, as Juneteenth Independence Day in the City of Griffin.
As we reflect on our nation's history, Juneteenth serves as an opportunity to learn, remember, and reaffirm our commitment to building a community where all people are valued and have the opportunity to thrive.
City of Griffin offices are closed today, in observance of the holiday, and will reopen on Monday, June 22nd. The Landfill will also be closed tomorrow, June 20th. As a reminder, the Urban Outreach Association will host this year's Juneteenth Parade tomorrow at 10am in Downtown Griffin, with festivities at City Park starting at noon.
