BURN BAN REMINDER – EFFECTIVE MAY 1st 🔥🚫

Starting May 1st, the annual outdoor burning ban goes into effect across 54 counties in Georgia and will remain in place through September 30th.

🌿 Outdoor burning of natural vegetation is only allowed October 1st – April 30th each year.

Even though permits are no longer required for burning hand-piled natural vegetation, the following Spalding County Outdoor Burning Rules still apply:

* Must be attended at all times by a responsible adult
*Must have an adequate extinguishing method on hand (hose, dirt, sand, extinguisher, etc.)
*Must be at least 50 ft from structures (or 15 ft if in an approved container)
*NO burning of garbage, plastics, tires, treated wood, or construction debris
*Fires must be fully extinguished by nightfall

You are responsible for your fire. Escaped fires may result in citations in addition to liability for damages.

PLEASE BE AWARE: Agricultural, silviculture, and land clearing burns still require a permit and must be coordinated with the Georgia Forestry Commission (770-227-5522)

🚨 FIRE WEATHER WATCH – SATURDAY 🚨

Due to extended dry conditions, low humidity, and forecasted winds, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for our area this Saturday.

🔥 These conditions can cause fires to start easily and spread rapidly.

⚠️ Please avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with anything that could spark a fire.

Stay alert, stay informed, and help keep our community safe.

đźš’Friendly reminderđźš’

When you change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time, take a minute to change the batteries in your smoke alarms too. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire by nearly half, but they only help if they have power. Test each alarm in your home and replace the batteries if needed. It’s a quick step that can make a life saving difference for you and your family!

DID YOU KNOW
That smoke alarms themselves expire? Most smoke alarms are designed to last about 10 years, and after that the internal sensor can become less sensitive or unreliable. That’s why manufacturers place a manufacture date on the back of the alarm, not just the battery. If your alarm is more than 10 years old, it should probably replaced entirely, not just given a new battery!!

Questions about your smoke alarms? Don’t have any in your home? Feel free to contact our administrative offices at 770-228-2129 M-F from 8-5

As always, stay safe out there!!

This week members of the Spalding County Fire Department traveled to Ohio to inspect two new fire engines at Sutphen Corporation. This visit allowed crews to ensure the trucks meet all specifications before they are delivered and placed into service.

We look forward to bringing these new engines home soon to better serve the citizens of Spalding County. 🚒🔥

This week, members of SCFD participated in a Structural Fire Control course alongside LaGrange Fire. Our Crews conducted above- and below-grade fire attacks, strengthened interior hose management skills, and refreshed critical techniques for reading smoke and maintaining scene safety.

Continuous training builds safer firefighters and a stronger community—and we’re proud of our personnel’s commitment to growth and service. 🚒🔥
