The Griffin Lions Club has been busy in the last month conducting vision screenings in the Griffin Spalding School District. In collaboration with the Griffin Kiwanis Club and Southern Cresent Technical College nursing students, 11 elementary schools have been visited.

In children, poor vision is often mistaken as a learning disability or leans toward poor performance academicly. In our efforts, a total of 3981 students were screened with 944 referrals for further medical evaluation. This is a 23.7% deficiency rate in the districts Elementary schools.

The Lions and Kiwanis Clubs both offer assistance to those students who need assistance with a formal diagnostic exam and a pair of glasses from a licensed optometrist. With such a high referral rate, our funding resources are sure to be stressed.

If you would consider assisting us in our efforts to continue to provide these services in would be appreciated. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or via Facebook and we will contact.
