ewcKids ewcKids is the children's ministry of Eagles Way Church in Griffin, Georgia. It is our goal to have our children feel loved and valued.

Nothing is more important to EWC than our children; we are incorporating biblical principles in a safe and loving environment. To help them find their place in the Kingdom of God while learning virtues and morals that are as important in today’s society as reading and writing. Our vision for ewcKIDS is to create an exciting and safe atmosphere for our children to learn God’s Word, to learn about His love, and to learn how it applies to them on a daily basis.

Last week we learned about the good king Josiah (whose reign began when he was 8! 😮)and how he chose to follow God and destroy the idols as God commanded. We learned how important it is to live our lives doing right in the eyes of the Lord.

When Josiah ordered the temple to be repaired, the priest Hilkiah found the Book of the Law that the Lord had given Moses…When Josiah heard it read to him he was saddened and tore his clothes to prove it…God’s people had NOT been keeping God’s Word (their end of the covenant) and needed to repent and promise to obey God again. (We learned what repent means!)

We played a fun game of “hide the scroll” to remind us of how finding God’s Word was like finding a great treasure…and we made our own “scrolls” to take home.

This past Sunday was Star Wars Day, (May the fourth be with you!) and we learned about how Elijah the prophet used the “Force” (ie, the Spirit of the Living God) to prove a point—that there is only ONE true God, the Lord. In an amazing display of power and awesomeness, God consumed Elijah’s sacrifice AND the entire water-drenched altar with fire from Heaven….while the sacrifice and alter of the 400 prophets of those fake gods sat untouched alllll day…though they prayed and begged their hearts out. And we learned that the same God who showed his great care to Israel when he sent rain after 3 long years of no rain, sent us His Son Jesus. ❤️

To help us remember that God caused it to not rain for three years in Israel, we played a game where balloons represented raindrops, with the goal being to not let them touch the ground. To add a little Star Wars fun, they wielded light sabers (made out of pool noodles) to aid them in keeping their “rain” off the ground. 💧💧💧

Last Sunday we learned about the two bad kings (Rehoboam and Jeroboam) who cracked God’s kingdom when they rebelled against Him. Instead of one unified kingdom, ten tribes made up Israel in the north, and two tribes made up Judah in the south. Both kingdoms would struggle over the years because a good king is hard to find. (In Jesus, though, we have the BEST king EVER!)

We played a bowling game to help us remember that just as hitting one pin can have a domino effect, knocking down more—one bad decision (Rehoboam listening and following bad advice!) led to bad consequences—and a divided kingdom! We also made “torn” paper castles to remind us that that the kingdom was torn apart because of Rehoboam’s bad decision. 💔

Palm Sunday was jam-packed with lots of learning (we talked about alll of Holy Week and why each day was significant and meaningful) as well as lots of funnn! We played a game to help us remember how people honored Jesus when He entered Jerusalem on a donkey by throwing down their coats in His path…and we made a colorful tambourine with which to shout “Hosanna” and make a joyful noise in celebration of our King and Savior…and then we decorated our own Easter “bag”skets and went down to the sanctuary for fast-paced scramble for our share of 500 eggs filled with goodies! What a day!🥰

And then this past week—Easter was a precious time of learning in more depth about good Friday, Silent Saturday, and then of course, resurrection Sunday. I remain, as always, blown away at the rapt attention and curiosity they give for these dear-to-my heart, life-giving lessons. These children are so precious, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to partner with the Spirit and be a seed sower in their lives. We had a large crowd this past Sunday—and two special crafts—and I was so focused on teaching and helping, I completely forgot to take pictures (except of my own finished craft)!🤦🏻‍♀️ But the children all looked wonderful in their Easter outfits! I hope you all had a lovely Easter, too!✝️

The Bible is exciting! We keep discovering how BIG and amaaaazing our God is and how much he loves us, despite our mannnnny flaws and failures. For example, the week before last, we learned the hard story of David and Bathsheba. We played a “Swat Away Sin” game to help us remember we need to recognize sin for what it is and avoid it at all costs! But, most importantly, we learned our big truth: God forgives even big-time sins when we repent. Such a good and merciful God. We made a colorful heart craft to remind us of this truth! 🥰

And then last week we learned about King David’s son, King Solomon—and how he was a good and wise king, but then also a bad and foolish king! When he asked God for wisdom, God gave it to him (just as He does for us when we ask Him!) to help him live right and lead His people…and because of his heart for God, the Lord also blessed him with wealth and fame. However, Solomon had too many wives (700 or so!) and he got distracted by them and their gods and turned from the one true God (not wise at all!) and then, as always in the history of God’s people when they forget who and how they were created to be, things went downhill fast!🤦🏻‍♀️ We played a fun “divided heart” game and created a stoplight craft to remind us that we should always: STOP and ask God for wisdom, SLOW down and consider God’s Word, and GO and follow God’s word! 🚦

We continue to enjoy our time together every Sunday morning upstairs, learning about God’s people and His faithfulness story by story in the Old Testament. The week before last we learned about Samuel, who’s momma prayed and believed for him, and who was given back to the Lord for a lifetime of dedicated godly service in God’s house. To help us remember the story of him hearing God’s voice for the first time, (and him thinking it was Eli!) we played the telephone game…as for our Big Truth we planted in our hearts? God’s people should obey and share God’s Word, the Bible.

And then last week we learned about the rise and fall of King Saul. God’s people rejected Him as their King, and instead they wanted a big strong powerful in his own might man to rule them, just like all the other nations. Unfortunately, though he was successful at first, Saul ended up disobeying God because he cared more about what people thought than what God said was right. But God didn’t let Israel’s bad choice (in wanting a human king) stop His perfect plan. He would still establish His forever kingdom through His Son, Jesus—the perfect king (the only one we need!)! We learned that no matter how much rebellion or rejection—God can use anything and turn it around for His good and perfect plan. ☺️ To help us remember this issue with the human kings, we went on a “king hunt” and made our own king crowns!

And then today we learned about the next king to be anointed—the unlikely, youngest of eight brothers, shepherd boy David. We learned that he was chosen because God doesn’t look at/care about outwardly appearances—He looks at the heart. (See our heart/bead necklaces❤️‼️) And David’s was devoted to the Lord….and because he knew who his God was and trusted him to deliver Israel from their enemies, he had the courage to face Goliath and put an end to this giant who dared to defy God, because he knew the battle was the Lord’s. And even still today, through His anointed king, (Jesus!) God defeats our biggest enemies! 🥰

Last week we learned about the mighty and powerful (though seriously flawed!) Samson. We played a game mimicking his interactions with Delilah called “Two truths and a lie,” and made a lion puppet because the Bible said Samson was so strong that he once tore a lion apart with his bare hands!😳🦁‼️ Overall, we learned that true strength is more about faith 🙌🏻 than muscles.💪🏻

The week before last we learned the (often overlooked or forgotten) story of Zelophehad’s five daughters and the concept of an inheritance. Through this story we learned that God’s promises are for ALL of us…and the inheritance that awaits us all one day is much greater than any earthly one. (We played a fun game of finding our own “inheritance” (pennies!) hidden around the room…designed a dazzling cross to remind us of the glorious inheritance that awaits us! ✨✝️✨)

And then last week we learned about Joshua and the battle of Jericho. God saved Rahab and her family because she believed and trusted in Him…and God gave Joshua and the Israelites the victory because they trusted and obeyed him. (We played a fun game trying to knock down the opposing side’s cup “walls.” And we designed victory pennants (not pictured) to remind us that “God gives the victory!”

This past week we learned about how three men questioned Moses’ and Aaron’s leadership (and rebelled against God’s will) and the consequences they faced—the ground opened up and swallowed them! Ms. Layna forgot to take pictures, but our EWC kids made Thank You cards for leaders in our church because, instead of rebelling or complaining against God’s chosen leaders, we should show gratitude for them! ❤️

The week before we learned about the 12 spies sent into the promised land and what they found (a land flowing with milk and honey—and huge grapes!😆🍇), including GIANTS! We also learned that the Israelites could not enter the land God promised them because they didn’t trust Him! Caleb and Joshua taught us our Big Truth: Believing God’s promises makes us brave. Our balloon grapes on the vine game was a huge hit! 😁

Last week we learned about the special holy day that is set aside every year—the Day of Atonement—on which the chief priest would make a special sacrifice to our holy God on behalf of His unholy people. We learned about the two goats (we named Forgive and Forget)—one which was killed and its blood sprinkled on the Ark of the Covenant…the other which was led out into the wilderness and let go, never to return. We talked about how Jesus fulfilled this requirement when He died on the cross for our sins and made a way for us to be in relationship with us. What good news!❤️

Last week we learned about how God was very specific with the Israelites about not only how they were to live (Ten Commandments) but also how they were to worship Him (we heard about His instructions for building His Tabernacle and what all happens in there)…however, the Israelites got into trouble when they took matters into their own hands while Moses was away on the mountain with God, and they created for themselves a golden calf idol to worship! Yikes! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Moses prayed for them and because he interceded on their behalf, God showed mercy on them. We made the connection between the Israelites need for someone to intercede on their behalf (Moses) and all of humanity’s need for that very same thing—a savior (Jesus, the snake-crusher)! And then we played a game and made a beauuutiful craft to remind us that though there are many wonderful and beautiful things and people in this world, there is nothing and no one (idol!) apart from God that is worthy of our worship. (1 John 5:21)❤️
