Where kindness and compassion make a difference. Wedrose Acres is a 501(c)3 animal and wildlife sanctuary in Central Illinois.

Wedrose Acres is a non-profit animal sanctuary and wetland environment for wildlife and farm animals. We support the prevention of cruelty to all animals, big and small! We have many residents here on our sanctuary, including dogs, cats, alpacas, llamas, pigs, geese, a turkey, a cow, donkeys, horses, and many goats! We also provide sanctuary to a beautiful assortment of wild birds, wild flowers, w

It’s been awhile since we’ve posted, but all is well for us at Wedrose! We continue to care for our resident rescues ❤️‍🩹 and welcome visitors.

We were so happy to again host our friends from Merry Maids at the end of August. Here’s some photos from their visit with us! We’re so grateful for their generosity and intentional giving to our sanctuary!

This is Frida! She joined Wedrose on 11/5! We’re fostering her based on an emergency need from our friends at Chicagoland Pig Rescue!

She’s doing great -
She’s been cleared from U of I, we’re making sure she’s healthy and dewormed before she heads to her forever home here shortly….but wanted to share her with you all before that happens 💙

Please welcome our newest resident, Elmer, fondly and lovingly nicknamed Elmer Fudd by our staff (which I think is adorable).

He arrived last night (2 yo neutered male) from a life-threatening situation. We partnered with Chicagoland Pig Rescue to save him and give him a home.

It’s so sad when we have animals pass, but I have to realize it was a blessing that Willow and Lucky’s space was open after they left us… because we were able to say “yes!”

We hope you’ll come visit him soon! The guys said he’s doing really well in his new space! ❤️We hope we can introduce him to the other pigs soon 🤞🏻

We are so sorry to share about the passing of Willow…but we are so grateful that Willow is now reunited with Lucky. Below is the loving write up submitted by Elizabeth, who was Willow and Lucky’s rescuer, who brought them to Wedrose in 2021, to spend the rest of their lives together, where they were safe and happy.

“Willow was born February 1, 2013 to Bonni & Free Ride, and was a registered Yorkshire show pig. Mother to 35, grandmother to an unknown number… she was Pet of the Day on October 23, 2016, and Willow retired to Wedrose in late November 2021.

At Wedrose, you could find her could napping the day away in the sunshine, enjoying her mud bath, or waiting for her favorite banana snack at the gate.

Willow peacefully passed away in her sleep on January 1, 2024. We will miss her beautiful face and gentle spirit as Willow lived way beyond her life expectancy, was a provider of great comfort, as well as hours of peace and love.”

We welcomed the staff and family of our local Merry Maids to Wedrose on Saturday! They had a wonderful time and so did our residents. It’s so fun to watch the kids enjoy their interactions with animals they may have never seen or spent time with up close ❤️❤️

We had some awesome volunteers come out this week and hang with our residents! They spent time with Gerald, brushed the horses and walked Huey! Look at these awesome photos they shared! Thank you all❤️❤️

Update: the cats may not be coming tonight but in a day or so- pls continue to share If you can help! I really don’t want them living outdoors if we don’t have to

Anyone know of a cat rescue that can help at / near Flanagan IL? (Or near Wedrose?)

We’ve been contacted about a mama cat and a few babies that need homes. I’ve agreed for them to come to Wedrose and stay outdoors but know that’s not a great solution due to outdoor predators- but I don’t know what else to do- can anyone help? They want to bring and release tonight if they can trap them.
