🔇 Reduce the noise by closing windows, drawing blinds, and turning on the TV or music.

🏷️ Make sure your pet is wearing current ID tags.

📍 Check that your pet's microchip information is up to date, including your current phone number and address.

🏠 Create a safe, comfortable space with their favorite bed, toys, and water.

📸 Take recent photos of your pets in case they become lost.

💊 If your dog experiences anxiety during fireworks and may need sedatives, contact your veterinarian BEFORE the holiday. Many clinics book up quickly and may be closed during the holiday weekend.

5 years ago, I brought forward a proclamation to the Gridley City Council to make June 2, 2021 and every June 2 after “Mrs. Brenda Thomas Day” in the City of Gridley. Let’s remember to hold compassion and dignity towards others like Mrs. Thomas did. I think of her and her family on this day every year as a City we celebrate Mrs. Thomas.

We remember today that an act of kindness, an act of giving, and an act of service should happen not only today but 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Let us never forget that service to community is a reflection of the humanity and compassion that we all have within us. Today and everyday.

Here is a part of the City proclamation about Mrs. Thomas that I wrote that I want to share: “I choose to look for the good. It’s easy to find the bad. It is difficult to find the good.” Brenda embodied that our mistakes, differences, and adversities need not define our character, but that the love we share is the core of our significance” 💛
