Today's CCFS Drive-up Food Pantry event was a great achievement. The volunteers from Clear Head Westbank bring a significant amount of joy and happiness to each bi-monthly distribution, showcasing their profound dedication to our community's food security. We prioritize providing food packages of quality, nutrition, and meeting dietary needs for a balanced meal. Appreciation is given to Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans for their effective community collaboration.

The Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE)& Robe Community Baby Shower, held in partnership with Healthy Start New Orleans during Black Breastfeeding Week, was a resounding success, providing pregnant individuals, postpartum mothers, fathers, and parents with access to numerous local community resources. As the event coincided with the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, it was opportune timing to connect families with essential resources. Special thanks are extended to Rose, Robe, and Healthy Start New Orleans and the many Community organizations for their contributions to this successful event. Additionally, gratitude is expressed to Second Harvest Food Bank - Feeding South Louisiana for the generous donation of Carters pajamas and fresh fruit, which were shared with families. Resources from the Hear Campaign, Healthy Start, and WIC program were also disseminated. Each mother was encouraged to take advantage of the resources available.

It is with great satisfaction that we mark the accomplishment of a significant milestone. Supporting Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE) & Reaching Our Brothers Everywhere 15th Anniversary Breastfeeding & Birth Justice Summit was an honor. Connecting with top leaders in breastfeeding nationwide, including renowned experts in maternal child health, breastfeeding, mental health, public health, academia, research, doulas, peer counselors, midwives, doctors, nurses, community health workers, navigators, and social workers, was a privilege. Our CEO, Mary E. Schultheis, received a certificate of appreciation as an ambassador and local leader for her guidance in securing venue, speakers, vendors, and sponsors, which contributed to the summit's success.

Gratitude is expressed for the acknowledgement of Louisiana's progress in this special hearing. We value the opportunity to acknowledge Louisiana's success in reducing infant mortality rates. As a former Healthy Start grantee in Louisiana, CCFS contributed to the decline in Jefferson Parish and remains committed to enhancing maternal and infant health outcomes. Today, in celebration of World Breastfeeding Month, our organization successfully hosted its monthly diaper distribution event, bringing together prenatal, postpartum, and parenting families to offer a range of resources and impactful giveaways. Supported topics included health insurance education, public health concerns regarding lead and environmental safety, WIC nutrition guidance, vaccine information, breastfeeding support, prenatal vitamins, the Her Hear campaign, the pump act, child development insights, and the maternal mental health helpline. Additionally, local library resources were made available to promote reading literacy. Our partnership with the Junior League of New Orleans Diaper bank has enabled us to not only provide essential diapers and period products but also to deliver vital education and resources. We appreciate our community partners' ongoing support in ensuring our families' well-being is honored and supported.

WIC Matters!
Louisiana Department of Health National Healthy Start Association

This morning, Secretary Greenstein and Assistant Secretary Joiner testified to Senator Jackson-Andrews and the Senate Select Committee on Women & Children about recent WIC improvements. As of end July, WIC increased its service to reach 106,088 people in Louisiana. But there’s more to do. Louisiana’s Department of Health is focused on stronger data analysis, greater lift of program outreach like mobile WIC units, and creating stronger pathways with community partners to increase accessibility and membership. We want to reach every eligible mother and child to continue providing foundational nutrition to families. Eligibility checks are easy visit: https://louisianawic.org/

Thank you to Senator Jackson-Andrews and all committee members for their questions, care, and commitment to improving WIC and providing better health futures for the resident of Louisiana.
