Have you ever had someone step into the street while staring at their phone, forcing you to slam on your brakes? ๐๐จ Or maybe you've been walking while texting and suddenly heard the screech of tires nearby?
That's distracted walking, and it can have tragic consequences. ๐จ
Pedestrian fatalities have been increasing nationwide, and teens are among the highest-risk groups. With school out for the summer and more children spending time outdoors, now is the perfect time to remind everyone about pedestrian safety.
๐ Safety Tips for Walkers:
๐ต Never walk while texting or talking on your phone.
๐ If you need to send a text, stop walking and move to a safe location on the sidewalk.
๐ฆ Never cross the street while using an electronic device.
๐ง Avoid walking with headphones in both ears so you can hear traffic and warning signals.
๐ Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.
๐ถ Always use sidewalks when available. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing oncoming traffic.
