The average cost of tuition in Louisiana is $11,088 while the maximum Pell Grant amount is $6,895. At the end of your 4-year degree, eligible lowest-income Pell Grant recipients are still guaranteed to end up with AT LEAST a $16,722 loan with an interest rate of 4.99%.

Our student’s “best-case scenario” is a loan that starts at 35% of the median household income in Jefferson Parish…and this is only for tuition. It does not take into account housing, food, utilities, or other supplies.

Education should be the great equalizer but without these actions, we are keeping this vital opportunity out of reach for many of our best and brightest young people.
