We are very interested in hearing from anyone who talked with or saw Jonathan or knew someone going to see him on Aug 23, 2021 the day before he was found murdered.

We all know community outreach and education has never been more important than it is currently here at Greenwood County Coroner's Office. We operate with the highest degree of honesty, professionalism, and integrity in all that we do--with each other, with our community, and with our fellow law enforcement agencies.

Joseph Payne, a representative with LAW Publications will be in our community going from business to business to get sponsorships for our community safety program.

This program gets awareness information and material into the hands of school aged children and senior citizens to warn them of many different risks and dangers involved with drugs and also keep them informed on various other important safety topics.

Each September, NAMI recognizes Su***de Prevention Month as a time to raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around one of the most urgent mental health issues of our time.

Our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have access to the tools, resources, and support they need to talk openly about su***de prevention, recognize warning signs, and seek help.

This month: Start a Conversation. Be the Difference.

With one conversation, asking someone how they’re really doing — and being ready to truly listen — can save lives. Because here’s what we know: No one has to face this alone. Help exists. Healing is possible. And all it can take is for one person to start a conversation.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox would like to send a big THANK YOU to the citizens of Greenwood County for electing him to serve a fourth term in office.

Coroner Cox is grateful for the overwhelming support he has received in the 2012, 2016, 2020, and now the 2024 elections.

Serving as Coroner has been a challenge but Coroner Cox is proud of the progress the office has made over the years and is looking forward to continued progress in the Coroner’s Office the next four years.

On behalf of Coroner Sonny Cox and his staff, thank you again citizens of Greenwood County.

Coroner Sonny Cox would like to inform each of you of a growing problem faced in our country as well as our beloved county.

Su***de is a terrible thing that so many have been affected by. Below is information from the Coroner’s Office on su***de and some of its affects on Greenwood County.

During the 2023 calendar year, the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office responded to 17 deaths as a result of su***de. These are 17 of our friends, neighbors, and/or loved ones. Together we must keep this from happening any more in our community.

Coroner Cox would like to express his concern for those who have lost loved ones due to su***de. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you.

If you know someone or yourself may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, PLEASE reach out for help.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox would like to announce that he has filed for re-election and officially kicked off his campaign for a fourth term in office.

Coroner Cox would like everyone to know that it is an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Greenwood County as Coroner. Coroner Cox is thankful for the unwavering support shown by the citizens of Greenwood County in 2012, 2016, and 2020. He is thankful for the opportunities given to him by the citizens of the county and the continued trust in him to serve as Coroner.

Coroner Cox has faced significant challenges during his first three terms in office. He enjoys serving the citizens of Greenwood and looks forward to continued progress and a bright future.

Serving as County Coroner can be a challenging position at times as you deal with individuals going through what may be the toughest day of their life. While assisting grieving families, the Coroner must also properly investigate deaths to determine a proper cause and manner while maintaining the dignity of the deceased. Coroner Cox has proven himself to properly serve as Coroner stating that the rewards of serving as Coroner definitely outweighed challenges.

With that said, Coroner Cox would like to ask for the support of each and every one of you to serve a fourth term as Greenwood County Coroner.

Coroner Cox would also like to remind those of who you may be engaging in extra curricular activities such as drinking this holiday to please be safe, celebrate responsibly, and DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! Drinking and driving never results in a positive outcome so save lives and stay off the road if you choose to drink.
