Welcome to the Town of Greenwood!

Please join us in welcoming our newest officer, Jemela Freeman, who was officially sworn in yesterday and has already been issued the two things every officer needs: a badge and immediate responsibilities.

Officer Freeman brings an impressive and well-rounded background in law enforcement, public service, military service, and education to the Greenwood Police Department. She graduated from the Shreveport Police Department Police Academy in 2017 and served with the department until 2020. Following her time there, she continued serving the public as a Probation and Parole Officer with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, where dealing with difficult people was not only expected, it was part of the job description.

She later served as a police officer with the Minden Police Department in 2023, adding even more street-level experience to an already strong résumé.

Officer Freeman also currently serves in the US Army Reserve, where she works as a paralegal for the Judge Advocate General’s Office. That means if you break the law, there is a decent chance she can explain exactly what statute you violated and spell it correctly in the report.

As if that were not enough, she also holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Xavier University of Louisiana.

Officer Freeman brings professionalism, experience, discipline, and a true commitment to service. We are proud to have her join our department and know she will be a tremendous asset to the Town of Greenwood.

If you see Officer Freeman out in town, please help us welcome her. Preferably while doing the speed limit and making good life choices.

We are still looking for volunteers! Whether you’re a pro with a trash grabber or just really good at pointing at things that don't belong on the ground, we want you. Need school service hours? We can help with.
Please use the Google sign-up form so we can get a headcount and make plans for the cleanup routes.

Oh, and not to bribe you, but there will be Southern Maid Mansfield Rd. doughnuts that morning for those who want to indulge in a sugary treat. 😳🍩
After you burn off that sugary goodness doing a little volunteering, Open Range Fellowship in Greenwood, La., will be providing pizza for lunch.
Lastly, you won’t go thirsty, because Coca-Cola has donated drinks to quench your thirst.

Thank you Greenwood District 1 Alderman, Shannon Clemons for organizing this event!

Welcome back Officer Anderson!

Welcome back Officer Anderson!

🚨 SHE’S BACK… AND SHE BROUGHT DEGREES WITH HER 🚨

Y’all ever have one of those people leave your team and you just know they’re gonna come back better?

Yeah… this is that story.

The Greenwood Police Department is proud (and honestly a little excited) to welcome Officer Jennifer Anderson back to full-time duty.

Officer Anderson originally joined us in 2013 after coming over from Minden PD. It didn’t take long for her to stand out. She proved to be professional, driven, and the kind of officer you want showing up when things go sideways. During her time here, she racked up multiple commendations and earned a Life Saver Award after pulling a suicidal subject off the I-20 east overpass, literally stepping in and stopping a tragedy in its tracks.

In 2015, she left full-time patrol to become an Investigator with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services… but she never fully left us. She stuck around as a reserve officer, because apparently one badge just wasn’t enough.

Now fast forward to April 1st…

No, this is not an April Fool’s joke, we checked.

Officer Anderson is officially BACK full time.

And she didn’t come back the same.

Since she left, she’s earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Master of Science in Forensic Psychology from LSU-S. And because she clearly doesn’t believe in free time, she’s starting her Ph.D. in Psychology at Louisiana Tech this fall.

So to recap:
➡️ Left to gain experience
➡️ Collected degrees like Pokémon cards
➡️ Came back stronger than ever

We’ll take that trade every day of the week.

Greenwood, you’re getting an officer with experience, education, and a proven track record of stepping up when it matters most.

Welcome back, Officer Anderson. Let’s get to work.

Greenwood is participating again in the Love the Boot Litter Campaign. We are looking for volunteers for a few hours on April 18, 2026, to help clean up litter along the roadways. Businesses, Churches, Civic Organizations, Individuals, Local Elected Officials, and others are encouraged to sign up to volunteer and participate in this worthwhile event.

We hope you all have a blessed and Happy Easter! ✝️

Congratulations Lt. Faris.

Congratulations Lt. Faris.

🚨 PROMOTION ALERT (yes, we’re leveling him up) 🚨

After years of putting up with late-night calls, paperwork that never ends, and people insisting they were “just tired” (they weren’t)… the Greenwood Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Sergeant Christopher Faris to the rank of Lieutenant, effective April 1, 2026.

Before anyone asks, no, this is not an April Fool’s joke. We checked. Twice.

Lt. Faris brings nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience to the table, including time served with multiple agencies before joining Greenwood back in 2012. Over the years, he has built a reputation as that guy when it comes to impaired driving enforcement… which is great news for the community and terrible news for anyone thinking they can “make it home just fine.”

He currently serves as the department’s Training Coordinator (translation: the guy who makes sure everyone else knows what they’re doing) and Terminal Agency Coordinator (translation: the guy who makes sure nobody does something that gets us all in trouble). He’s also a certified Drug Recognition Expert, SFST Instructor, and Breath Field Supervisor, basically if it involves impaired driving, he’s probably already ten steps ahead of you.

Academically, Lt. Faris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northwestern State University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Law Enforcement Leadership from Liberty University. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Criminal Justice, because clearly his idea of “relaxing” is logging into school after a full shift and knocking out another research paper. At this point, we’re convinced he saw a syllabus once and took it personally.

Over the course of his career, he has earned multiple awards for DWI enforcement and has been qualified as an expert witness in court more times than we can conveniently list in a Facebook post (and yes, the defense attorneys know his name).

When he’s not working or buried in coursework, Lt. Faris enjoys spending time with his wife, Wendy, and their daughter, Piper, often planning their next cruise together. Based on how those trips are organized, we’re fairly confident his family vacations come with a full operations plan, contingency routes, and probably a briefing before departure.

Chief Shayne Gibson stated, “Lt. Faris has consistently demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and a strong commitment to public safety.”

We’ll translate that for you: he’s earned it.

Please join us in congratulating Lt. Faris on this promotion.

…and yes, he still has to answer his phone.
