The Greenwood City Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Daniel Manley to the rank of Lieutenant!

Lieutenant Manley is currently assigned to Engine 2 on C-Shift. He brings 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Greenwood. His experience and knowledge will continue to be a valuable asset to our department in this new role.

On June 5th at approximately 6:45pm, Greenwood City Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the area of Crescent Rd. along with units from the Greenwood County Fire Service. Greenwood County Engine 16 (responding from Northwest VFD) arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a dwelling. Greenwood City Engine 1, assisted Engine 16 with fire attack while Greenwood City Tower 1 performed vertical ventilation and searched the structure. Numerous other units responded from the Greenwood County Fire Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injures were reported.

The Greenwood City Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Kevin Smith to Fire Marshal!

Fire Marshal Smith has dedicated the past six years to serving the City of Greenwood, most recently as a Lieutenant. In his new role, Fire Marshal Smith will be responsible for fire code enforcement, conducting public education and fire prevention, and performing fire investigations.

Last Wednesday members of the Greenwood Fire Department joined the Greenville County Emergency Response Team and South Carolina Task Force - 6 for a special rescue training. Greenwood Fire personnel practiced techniques on cutting a breaking concrete and metal using various techniques.

This training is another example of building relationships with surrounding agencies and training to provide the highest level to provide for our community!

On Tuesday, June 2nd, (corrected from the 3rd) the City of Greenwood Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic aid structure fire in the area of Dixie Drive. Greenwood County Engine 14 arrived on scene and found heavy fire and smoke coming from a house. Greenwood City Engine 2 secured water supply and assisted Engine 14 with fire attack while City Fire Tower 1 personnel performed search and vertical ventilation. Greenwood County Engine 13, Northwest Engine 32, Hodges-Cokesbury Engine 40, Tanker 40 and multiple Chief’s responded. The fire was brought under control quickly and no injuries were reported. The cause is still under investigation. Great work by everyone who responded!

The Greenwood City Fire Department is proud to recognize Firefighter Hunter Cline on earning his designation as Firefighter/Apparatus Operator (FAO).

Firefighter Cline has been with the GFD for two years and currently serves as the engineer of Engine 1 on A-Shift. Through his dedication and hard work, he has demonstrated the knowledge and skill required to take on this new role.
