The Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps. was honored to receive the 2025 County Executive Meritorious Service Award for efforts from the 2024 Jennings Creek Wildfire, alongside our brothers and sisters in the Fire Department and Police Departments.

Captain Bob Ackerson and Lieutenants Michael King and Soren Sorensen represented all our volunteers who ensured not only did we have crews stationed at points surrounding the efforts, but also in the woods directly supporting fire crews and still maintaining responses to other emergencies within our district.

We are endlessly thankful for our volunteers and all the emergency agencies, the county, and state who helped in this event. We also still remember and give thanks for the outpouring of support from our village whose generosity was overwhelming.

With the successful planting of the Village of Greenwood Lake’s Christmas Tree at Winstanley Park, it was time for the Ambulance Corps to evaluate the continued health and safety of our tree. While we’ve been so happy to have it be part of the community’s events for the past several years and we will all treasure the special moments gathered around it, it was becoming apparent there were a number of issues with the tree and its long term survival in its space was not possible.
The tree as many of you had noticed, had outgrown its space, beginning to grow into the sidewalk area and parking area. Underground, its roots had reached and were interfering with electrical supply systems as well as the sidewalk. It was also posing a visibility hazard to those exiting Waterstone Road.
While not an easy decision to make, with safety in mind and knowing we have the new beautiful tree at Winstanley Park to gather around together, it was time to have this done. We’d like to thank Greenwood Lake Tree for kindly donating their time and efforts to safely remove the tree and always being a support to the community. We are also looking forward to the eventual planting of a new ornamental tree, well suited to the space, to continue beautifying the street we love being a part of so much. Thank you for your support.

The Corps joins our brothers and sisters in Warwick Fire and Ambulance Corps in mourning the loss of Bob Lemin. Bob’s dedication to his community, unwavering compassion, and ceaseless service have made our entire community a better, safer place. His face was always a welcomed sight whenever we needed help from the Warwick crew and so many of our own community were aided by Bobby over the years.
We will miss our fellow volunteer and even more deeply our Friend, Robert Lemin. Our hearts are with his family and all those who knew and loved him.
