Coming to a mailbox near you soon!!! You'll receive information regarding 2026/2027 fire tag purchase.

Did you know our main source of income is Fire tag sales and donations/fundraisers?!?

All property owners,
We would like to inform you of a change in how we are identifying and tracking fire (tag) association membership sales for 2026. We have contracted with Mapping Solutions GIS Services (the company Wayne County uses for its mapping services) to identify all parcel owners in our service area. 2026 marks the first year we have a complete and accurate list of parcel owners in our service area. This may explain why you are receiving correspondence from us for the first time. We will now track fire (tag) association sales and payments via this list. This letter and the accompanying fire (tag) association membership application will serve as your first opportunity to purchase a fire (tag) association membership. 2026 Fire Association Memberships are due June 1st, 2026. Association Membership for 2026 is $55.00.

Please remit payment for membership to WCVFPD #1, PO Box 349, Greenville, MO 63944. We will also
be available at Greenville FIRE/RESCUE Hse #1 (107 Sycamore St., Greenville, MO 63944) each Saturday morning in June from 8 to noon to sell memberships.

Important facts and Frequently asked questions:
Most homeowners and property insurance companies require membership in the fire protection association.

Property Owners with more than one occupied dwelling on the property must purchase additional fire tags for each occupied dwelling on the property.

Property owners who own property not in one continuous tract must purchase separate fire tags for each parcel not connected. (Property separated by state and county roads is considered continuous)

Commercial Property Owners will be assessed fire tag fees, based on target hazards, resource requirements, and the footprint of commercial buildings.

Non-members will be issued a response recovery fee authorized by Missouri Law RSMO #320.302 of a $100.00 response fee, and up to $500.00 per hour for onsite services. This recovery fee will apply to all calls for service in the Greenville FIRE/RESCUE (WCVFPD #1) service area. Responses will include, but are not limited to, structure fires, vehicle fires(including farm equipment), Brush/Wildland fires, Vehicle collisions, and other rescue-related calls for service.

You may opt out of the association response to your property by sending a letter to Fire Chief David Henderson at the above address, clearly stating you do not want the Wayne County Volunteer Fire Protection District #1 to respond to incidents on your property. Please note this letter does not exempt parcel owners from civil or criminal damages incurred on neighboring properties as described in RSMO 569.065, 537.380, and 537.400.

With the threat of severe weather this afternoon we want to take a min to highlight the differences between watches and warnings. This meteorologist has a great explanation on how to understand and remember the differences!

A major outbreak of severe storms is possible late Monday afternoon and Monday evening. Strong tornadoes and widespread damaging winds will be the primary concerns, but large hail will be possible over portions of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Today we assisted The Piedmont City Fire Department with a multi-family apartment building fire. Much respect to the individuals on the initial attack crews who made a great stop on this fire, and the police officer who rescued a civilian. We are proud to be a part of such a great community that lends a helping hand anytime there is a need! Thank you to all those who assisted today, Clearwater F.P.D., South Iron F.P.D., and Ironton Fire Department.

Fun fact Friday!!!

This picture is of “9010” one of the workhorses of our fleet. It’s a 37 year old Pierce Dash “open cab” pumper.

The average age of our Fire trucks is more than 36 years old😳!! Now that may not sound old…as many of us would give anything to go back to 36 and remember what it was like not to have arthritis that flares up with every incoming weather front, but when you consider what NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) says:

NFPA 1900 (formerly 1901/1911) recommends fire apparatus move to reserve status after 15 years of front-line service and be fully retired after 25 years. These units are going above and beyond to answer the call!

Key NFPA Guidelines and Considerations:

15-Year Mark: Recommends moving the vehicle from frontline to reserve status.

25-Year Mark: Recommends full retirement of the vehicle from service.

Upgrades and Compliance: Vehicles older than 20 years that do not meet current NFPA standards (e.g., lack of enclosed cabs, updated braking systems) are recommended for replacement, according to.

Inspection Requirement: Apparatus over 20 years old should be retired unless they pass annual, comprehensive, and acceptance-level tests.
Safety Features: Focus is on updating to current safety technology, including three-point seat belts and rollover protection.

We go above and beyond to ensure each Truck is safe and ready to respond when you call!
