Our department includes a diverse group of 54 personnel working collectively to protect the quality of life in the City of Mauldin and the Mauldin Fire Service Area from all predictable hazards through prevention, emergency response and by engaging our community partners. We accomplish the mission of protecting quality of life by engaging in the activities you, as citizens, are participating. You

will find us at festivals, corporate family days, charitable fund raisers and a variety of other events providing important fire safety information. Our department is also in active partnership in student programs such as our Firefighter Explorer Post and the Golden Strip Career Centers’ Firefighter Development curriculum. These programs give students exposure to the activities and requirements of fire service as a career and provide mentoring opportunities to those seeking public service as a profession. Our personnel also provide extensive public safety education programs to schools, daycares and community groups through interactive opportunities such as puppet shows, station tours and an annual fire prevention festival. We also offer medical first response at events such as Miracle League, Mauldin High School football games, 5k races and events such as the annual “Easter Egg Drop”. You will notice our Fire Marshals in your places of employment partnering with business owners to ensure a safe work environment through life safety inspections or providing fire extinguisher training. You will notice our firefighters “pre-planning” commercial buildings so accurate information is available should an emergency occur. Our personnel train each shift and regularly attend professional development opportunities which empowers them to provide a high level of service in the areas of fire suppression, medical first response, hazardous materials response and technical rescue. Through our community involvement, we hope to reduce the need for you to call us for our traditional role as emergency responders. But if you do, be assured you will receive the same high quality response provided by the Mauldin Fire Department since our beginning in 1958.

Our team has been busy with community-focused activities this week. Yesterday, we addressed the senior men's group at Legacy at Southpointe, discussing our daily responsibilities and demonstrating safety gear usage. We learned about the men's diverse work experiences and career paths during the session. Today, we took part in BASF's 'Bring Your Kid to Work Day,' educating employees' children on fire safety and prevention methods, including the use of fire extinguishers on our LED training prop. A fun competition between the kids and firefighters added an engaging element to the event, with one child successfully extinguishing the simulated fire faster than a firefighter. We are grateful for opportunities to share fire safety knowledge with the community.

The Mauldin Fire Department is proud to announce that we have once again received designation as a South Carolina Fire Safe Community. At the Fire Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach, Deputy Fire Marshal Robbie Holloway accepted the award on behalf of the department and the community. This achievement underscores the tireless efforts of our staff and partners whose collaboration has been instrumental in advancing fire safety awareness through innovative outreach and partnerships, benefiting both residents and visitors of Mauldin.

Thanks to the Generous donations of material from some of our Community Partners we were able to construct a "Denver Drill" Prop for an upcoming class that we will be hosting. The "Denver Drill" is a critical firefighting training exercise developed in response to the tragic Line-of Duty death of Firefighter Mark Langvardt on September 28th 1992. The Prop depicts the small closet like storage room where the Firefighter become trapped with aisles only 28 inches wide and the only egress is via a high small window. This drill tests the physical and mental ability of Firefighters to work in such small quarters to rescue one of their own. We would like to extend our gratitude to the following Local businesses that made it possible for us to build this very crucial training prop. GBS Lumber, ACE Hardware, and Northern Tool. This Training Prop will serve Mauldin Fire Department personnel for years to come and be a valuable tool in strengthening our firefighters skills in rescue operations.

Their commitment to serving others and willingness to answer the call in critical moments truly reflects the values of this department and the city they proudly serve.

We thank each of them for their dedication, teamwork, and continued service to our community. This recognition is well deserved, and we are proud to honor their outstanding efforts and commitment to saving lives.

Several local families recently experienced devastating losses in a fire that damaged four townhome units in our area. Through a partnership between Reignite Hope and LEO SANTA, the Mauldin Fire Dept, along with Wade Hampton FD, Berea FD, and Taylors FD, the families were treated to a shopping experience designed to provide comfort and support during a difficult time. While the loss was irreparable, our efforts aimed to remind them that they have a supportive community.

SCFC TO LIFT BURNING BAN FOR 12 UPSTATE COUNTIES WEDNESDAY

The South Carolina Forestry Commission will lift the State Forester's Burning Ban for 12 counties in the Piedmont region of the state, effective at 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 29.
The counties coming off the burning ban are Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union and York (see map).

SC Forestry Commission to issue statewide burning ban; restriction on all outdoor burning goes into effect at 7 a.m. Friday

COLUMBIA—The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, effective at 7 a.m. Friday, April 17.

A State Forester’s Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.

Forestry Commission officials cite a particularly dangerous mix of elevated wildfire risk factors through the weekend that warrant limiting all ignitions in the interest of public safety.

Rapidly escalating drought conditions across the state, a critical decrease in relative humidities over the next several days and gusty winds that are expected to accompany an approaching cold front will combine to create extreme fire danger.

"When it’s this dry – energy release component values are at high-to-critical levels – we’re just as likely, if not more, to see wildfires that are fuel-driven rather than wind-driven. Add the other volatile conditions of increased wind and lower relative humidity, and it becomes an especially precarious situation,” said SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones. "These conditions not only increase the likelihood of wildfires igniting easily and spreading rapidly, but would also make them more difficult for firefighters to control.”

While the ban does not apply to fires used for the preparation of food or fires used in appropriate enclosures (portable outdoor fireplaces, chimineas or permanent fire pits constructed of stone, masonry, metal or other noncombustible material that conforms with all applicable South Carolina fire codes), Forestry Commission officials urge the utmost caution burning outdoors under these exemptions.

Likewise, citizens should exercise extreme vigilance operating any equipment that could create sparks, avoid parking on dry grass and refrain from using fireworks.

The ban will stay in effect until further notice, which will come in the form of an official announcement from the Forestry Commission.
