We celebrated National Poppy Day on May 22nd. The day serves as a time to wear a red poppy, honoring the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice while supporting living veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families. The tradition is inspired by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae's famous World War I poem, In Flanders Fields, which described the bright red flowers growing among the graves of fallen soldiers.
This year our Poppy girl, sold poppies on Poppy Day and during the Memorial Day activities. She also had a special guest, Sharon Marshall-Bouck speak at her school and talk about the poppies.
