We are off and running, we will be coordinating a Walk on Columbia to deliver this petition in person. Date forthcoming! Please sign and share...we have to start somewhere!

What is Eli's Law? Eli's Law! Prohibit any person from displaying for the purpose of sale, selling, delivering, offering for sale, bartering,...

We know this page has been silent for a while. Angela has been busy with the many tasks or running her rescue and finding homes for the animals saved. We have been working behind the scenes and also requested support of local government to make the needed changes. Angela decided that Eli's Law will not be limited to the Up-state but rather all of South Carolina. She is creating a petition which she will deliver to Governor Hailey in person before the end of this year. Nothing like a March on Columbia by Eli's Law Supporters. Date and time will be posted in the upcoming weeks. We need to ensure our great Governor will be at work that day :)

What is Eli's Law and how would it read?-------Eli's Law! Prohibit any person from displaying for the purpose of sale, selling, delivering, offering for sale, bartering, auctioning or giving away or disposing of a companion animal in any public place to include flea markets, streets, parking lots, carnivals, sidewalk, areas exterior to shops or business. Eli's Law does not prohibit adoption or display of organizations such as animal rescue groups, animal shelters or humane societies licensed to operate in South Carolina.

Anderson County also had a great many supporters come out and speak at their meeting. Seeing that the most recent Puppy Mill and Back yard breeders sold in that county at the Jockey Lot (which is a rather large Flea Market with an area designed specifically for the sale of companion animals), the community should also be up in arms. I am glad to see they are. Ill treatment of animals is far too overlooked. I peeked over on their Facebook wall and I have to tell you that I am as stunned at what some people still find acceptable. I love flea markets, I am one of the early birds that loves to go and find a bargain. What I do not love is buying or supporting the sale of sick animals. It is obvious that some folks would rather send PM's or slander persons character than look at the facts. Fact is many are sick, many are not. Lucky for those that are not. But even the people that buy the healthy ones, do they not want to see where the parents reside? Do they not want to see how they are handled and how they are kept? If some of the breeder that sell at a Flea Market are proud of their animals and they way they are breeding, then show off your pride and joy...they should have no reason to hide, get defensive or launch personal attacks. If I own a business and allow other retailers to sell at my establishment you better believe I will have them checked out prior...it is called basic common business sense..if you allow an activity, you are also condoning it. Basic truth! Out of the 50+ Breeders I have contacted and asked if they sell their animals at a flea market or a road side they all said and I quote, "Are you kidding me", "no way, we run a clean ship and do not want our name associated with that"....So for those of you that are still missing the point of Eli's Law...it is not an Anti Breeding Law...it is to ban the sale of companion animals at Flea Markets and all other outside venues...I was always told if you did noting wrong, there is also no need for a defense. I see a lot of defensive comments....Many of the flea market owners we asked why they allow this, the answer was simple, why not? We also have one that e-mailed me back today I will be speaking to regarding banning the sale at his establishment. No rude snarky comments, no threats with hot air..we are sitting down like civilized adults discussing the potential issues...I have found that in a civilized society that is how you get things done! Facts, data to back up said facts...so please I asked you again...unless you have something to contribute in a civil manner, refrain from posting the nonsense that tends to clutter up the feeds..thanks so much!

County Council Meeting #1 under our belt. This was a super long meeting due to the many other issues they were voting on...presented everything that I could in 3 minutes...spoke to two Council Members after the meeting that gave some very good strategy pointers...! :) So onward and upward we go...the medical documentation from folks that have purchased animals at Flea Markets is starting to come in..THANK YOU for that...Keep tuned and we will let you know what round 2 will look like :)

1000 Interested Members...that is fantastic. :) We are still waiting for the many folks that have PM'ed and messaged on the page that they purchases sick animals from Flea Markets in the Up-State to please submit documentation i.e. vet records pictures etc. Thank you for those of you that have done so already!

Yes, I am SUPER Excited, just ended an amazing conversation with Nikki Davidson from Fox Carolina regarding Eli's Law They will be following us as this develops and eventually do a story! Pretty excited about this...now I just pray I do not embarrass myself at the Council Meeting tomorrow since this will be my first Rodeo for something of this magnitude! As progressive as Greenville County is, this truly is an embarrassment to the residents and should be an embarrassment to any city, county state official that we allow this activity to take place!

Thank you everyone that has Liked this page thus far...we are busy calling all Flea Markets in the Upstate and surround to see who allows the sale of companion animals and who does not..we should have the list completed shortly. As you can imagine, they are a little cramped up in talking to anyone considering what just happened at the JL..but once they see we are only seeking some basic answers and are not calling to yell, scream and insult we are making progress...:) We are also working on drafting a Petition to post on Change.org as well as completing some additional research on other little tid bits we need to give us an effective start with this. Preparation and factual data is the key! Thank you for joining and please all I ask is that when you post, please do not name call..that serves no purpose to fight and insult each other on posts...that is not what this is about...and that also will not change anything. For those that think people in Rescue are crazy or bored as suggested earlier it only adds fuel to the fire. We are not crazy, we are all well educated adults that care about companion animals..we are all against the pain and suffering they endure. So thank you for focusing on what we can do rather than lowering ourselves to the level of those that Breed out of Greed!

08/16/2013

Please remember that Eli's quest is not directed towards the JL but ALL Flea Markets that allow the sale and trade of companion animals..many Flea Markets do...they allow animals to sit in Rubber maid tubs in direct sunlight without food or water. They are allowed to keep them in the back of a Truck...without shelter...they are not asked to produce vaccine records...that is a Public Safety Issue...what if your child pets that sweet little parvo puppy and comes home to your beloved pet...what if you have a puppy at home.....who is to blame?...What if that can be avoided all together...! Proper vetting, proper care for all companion animals..they are not yard sale items..they are alive and breathing....!
