AJFC Finance Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Supervisors: Fiscal Department Staff
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Status: Full-time
Position Summary
The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with
federal and state regulations, and ensuring that AJFC remains solvent, stable and sustainable. The
Finance Director also partners with the Executive Director and Board to develop and implement
financial strategies to support AJFC’s mission and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute AJFC’s financial strategy, including an Agency-wide budget, trend
analysis, forecasting, and medium- to long-term planning
• Manage and supervise all finance and accounting staff and operations to include grants fiscal
management, reporting to state, federal and private donors, payroll, and procurement.
• Prepare and present regular financial reports and analysis to the board and staff.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and grant agreement terms and
conditions.
• Design, implement, and manage internal financial controls and procedures to maximize efficiency
and safeguard assets.
• Work closely with the executive director and other department heads to strategize on
aligning strategic objectives with financial plans.
• Manage and oversee the annual financial and single program audit process, serve as the principal
point of contact for fiscal monitoring reviews, and liaise with the finance committee of the board of
directors as needed.
• Implement operational best practices and systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and
reporting financial information.
• Program Operational Support: Monitor and assess program performance of AJFC, ensuring that all
activities align with its mission, goals and financial objectives. This includes liaising with
various program managers to ensure smooth functioning and delivery of services.
• Provide leadership and support to AJFC’s financial team, fostering a culture of transparency,
collaboration, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. (CPA or CGFM certification desirable, but not mandatory).
• Technical Experience: Five Years of experience directing the full monthly and annual accounting life cycle for a non-profit organization having demonstrated the ability to apply GAAP, the OMB Uniform Guidance and practices that ensure compliance with applicable regulations and grant requirements.
• Leadership Experience: Proven experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit or similar organization is essential.
• Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation.
• Strategic Planning: Ability to develop and implement strategic plans that align with AJFC’s mission and goals.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with staff, stakeholders, and the community.
• Strong Analytic and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address operational challenges and improve efficiency.
• Technology: Intermediate to advanced Excel experience and working knowledge of desk-top and/or Cloud-based accounting software.
