It has been over 30 years since a small group of individuals, led by Ruth Reid, Nancy Yeargin Furman and Jo Hartness, decided to organize a tennis event to raise awareness and support the effort to find a cure for cancer. The result was the Marion Harris American Cancer Society Senior Tennis Classic. Since then, many dedicated volunteers have carried the torch and the commitment r
emains just as strong today. Longtime champion of the fight against cancer, Barkley Rickman, recognized that in addition to finding a cure for cancer,there is
a tremendous need to help those who are fighting each and every day to live with this disease. Barkley chaired this event for many years,and at his
recommendation and in agreement with the ACS,the tournament will now be
called the Marion Harris "Smash Cancer" Adult Tennis Classic, benefitting the American Cancer Society and the Cancer Society of Greenville. Yes, a long time fundraising tennis tournament will now aid both worthy organizations. The event this year will once again be held at the Greenville Country Club April 22-24. Enclosed, please find a list of our levels of giving. The Advantage Club has always been an important part of our fundraising efforts. It is made up of individuals who donate $100 or more to SMASH CANCER in the form of a memorial or honorarium which is displayed in our "Hopper of Hope" which will be prominently displayed at the tournament site. We also have included other levels of benefaction for your consideration. For all of you who have participated in the event and supported the Marion Harris Adult Classic in the past, please accept our heartfelt thanks. We hope that you will join us again. For those of you who might not been able to participate in the past, we would welcome and appreciate your patronage. Please consider giving at any level. Your support goes a long way in the fight for a cure and in helping those
