Today is the day.
As of today the Recruitment and Retention Program with the Kentucky Fire Commission will become defunct. The program which was funded through a SAFER grant from DHS has exhausted its funding. A grant application to the SAFER program for continuation past 2015 was not funded. The program has been in place for 4+ years , has gone through 2 program coordinators and reached countless people in the 14 training areas of the Commonwealth.
The program has been able to assist numerous departments across the Commonwealth and this program would not be what it was/is without their support. Thank you. The program relied greatly on Area/Headquarter staff across the Commonwealth in assisting in trailer logistics, spreading the word about the program and sharing of ideas. Thank you.
The Mobile History & Recruiting Center remains a part of the mobile fleet of SFRT, requests for that asset should go through your area office. The trailer is currently scheduled for several events throughout this year and questions regarding availability should be coordinated through the Area 3 office.
Questions regarding Jr. FF programs should be directed to Fire Commission Headquarters in Lexington and someone from the knowledgeable staff should be able to assist you.
This page will most likely be archived in the future due to inactivity. Your interactions and support have made this a vehicle for discussion and learning across the Commonwealth.
A few quick reminders in closing:
Treat your people right
Involve all of the membership
Create opportunities for people to volunteer
Inform your community of your needs
Get the message out there
Don't regulate all the fun out of the job.
This post is not to bash, just to inform.
Respectfully,
-Jake (From State Fire)
Program Coordinator (Emeritus)
