While we did not get dispatched for assistance, the Hempfield Township VFD extends its deepest sympathies to the Lakeview Area School District, the family affected and the responders who worked a fire at a Walnut Street home. Sadly, a mother and two juveniles perished, along with family pets, and two others escaped.

ELEVATED RISK OF WILDFIRE SPREAD DAY 2 - April 10, 2026

Chief Chris Rayburn and Assistant Chief Mike Rayburn remind residents to use EXTREME caution when burning throughout the year, but ask them to REFRAIN from outdoor burning throughout the day Friday, as the combination of marginally dry and breezy conditions will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across most of Pennsylvania once again today.

Wind gusts will be from the south to southwest between 15 and 25
mph with an occasional 30 mph gusts.

Minimum relative humidity values will be between 25 and 35 percent, and rain is expected to move through northwest PA which may limit those humidity drops to the 40 percent range.

Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential
ignition sources, such as machinery, ci******es, or matches.
If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have
the potential to spread rapidly.

prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department

ELEVATED RISK OF WILDFIRE SPREAD TODAY -- APRIL 9, 2026

The Pa. Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has issued an ELEVATED RISK OF WILDFIRE SPREAD ALERT -- The combination of dry and breezy conditions will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across most of
Pennsylvania today. Minimum relative humidity values will be
between 25 to 35 percent with wind gusts from the south between 15 and 20 mph.

Because of that, Chief Chris Rayburn and Assistant Chief Mike Rayburn ask that residents refrain from outdoor burning in Hempfield and Sugar Grove Townships -- particularly in areas of heavy brush or open grassy areas, as winds could create dangerous situation for fires to get out of control very easily.

prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department
