Know the Difference: E-Bikes vs. E-Motos

Not all electric two-wheelers are the same. Understanding the difference between an e-bike and an e-moto helps keep everyone safe and riding legally.

Wisconsin Statute § 340.01(15ph) defines the three classes of electric bicycles:
🔻Class 1 E-Bike – Pedal-assist only, with motor assistance up to 20 mph.
🔻Class 2 E-Bike – Equipped with a throttle and/or pedal assist, with motor assistance up to 20 mph.
🔻Class 3 E-Bike – Pedal-assist up to 28 mph. Riders must be at least 16 years old.

In Wisconsin, electric bicycles are treated much like traditional bicycles. They do not require registration, insurance, or a driver's license and are generally allowed anywhere bicycles are permitted. Wisconsin Statute § 346.806

E-Motos are different. If a vehicle exceeds Wisconsin's e-bike classification requirements, it may be considered a moped, motor-driven cycle, or motorcycle.

They are legal on public roads when the following are requirements are met:
🔻Registered and plated
🔻Insured
🔻Operated by a licensed driver

Before you ride, make sure you know what you're riding and where it's legal to ride it.

🎉 The wait is over, the playground at Lions Park is officially OPENING tomorrow!! 🛝☀️🎈

We are SO excited to welcome everyone back to play, climb, slide, and make memories! A huge THANK YOU goes out to our amazing staff who have put countless hours into making this project happen. 👏💚

As you come out to enjoy the new playground, please be mindful of the restoration work still happening around the area. Please avoid walking on the freshly planted grass and stay on the walkways so everything can continue to grow and look beautiful for the community.
