What an honor to be among these nonprofits and their causes. We can’t thank Altrusa enough for helping us bring the refrigerated lockers to Oneal St early this year, and with this grant, we will have carts to carry the food from the pantry to the lockers.

Gratitude in Action

Today we were blessed to welcome volunteers from the Commerce Food Pantry and First United Methodist Church to Hunt County Shared Ministries.

They came to tour our pantry, learn more about the work being done across Hunt County, and then rolled up their sleeves to help. Before long, tables were covered with envelopes, hands were busy, and the room was filled with conversation, laughter, and a shared commitment to serving our neighbors.

One of my favorite things about ministry is seeing how God connects His people. Different churches. Different organizations. One mission: loving our neighbors well.

Thank you to the Commerce Food Pantry and First United Methodist Church for spending part of your day with us. We are grateful for your partnership, your servant hearts, and your willingness to be part of the work.

Before Most of Us Were Awake

Before most of us were awake this morning, families were already arriving and waiting in line for Produce Day.

Some arrived before 6:30 a.m. In fact, there were already five vehicles waiting when I pulled in. By the time distribution began, nearly 200 cars would come through.

What many people don’t see is what happens before the food reaches a neighbor’s trunk.

It takes more than 30 volunteers to make Produce Day possible. Long before distribution begins, they are unloading trucks, sorting food, organizing stations, directing traffic, loading vehicles, and greeting every person with kindness and dignity.

My favorite job is probably the simplest one. As families wait, I walk the line collecting zip codes and the ages of those living in each household. We track that information for North Texas Food Bank, but what I really love is the opportunity to talk with people.

I hear about new babies and grandchildren. I hear concerns about jobs, health, and rising costs. Sometimes people simply want someone to listen. Sometimes they ask for prayer, and right there in the line, before the food is ever distributed, we pray together.

Those conversations remind me that what we’re sharing isn’t just food. It’s hope, encouragement, and the reassurance that our neighbors are not alone.

As I watched the line grow this morning, I was reminded that hunger doesn’t wait for a convenient time. And neither do the people who show up to serve.

72 pounds of fresh produce from a friend’s garden went to our Hunt County neighbors this morning!

She wanted to remain anonymous but was willing to share her zucchini and yellow squash with us.

# The Many Ways to Say YES!

Today, we're grateful for the many ways people help our neighbors.

Betterton Farms said YES! with a generous donation of fresh zucchini and summer squash.

Mary said YES! with a plentiful donation of bread on behalf of Lakeshore Assembly of God.

The North Texas Food Bank said YES! by providing a SNAP Benefits Representative who helps seniors, families, and individuals access resources that stretch food budgets and put meals on the table.

And our front office volunteers continue to say YES! every week—greeting guests, answering phones, helping with paperwork, and making sure every neighbor receives a warm welcome.

Different gifts. Different people. One shared purpose.

Every Yes Matters

As I was looking through photos recently, I came across this one from For the City Week in late May.

A group from River Oaks Church had collected more than 700 pounds of food from their congregation and community. They brought it to Hunt County Shared Ministries in plastic bins and spent part of their day sorting it into pallet boxes.

What stands out to me isn’t the food.

It’s the people.

Young and old, standing shoulder to shoulder, serving together. Smiling. Working. Giving their time to help neighbors they may never meet.

What they probably didn’t realize is that their generosity didn’t end that day.

Weeks later, the food they collected is still helping us serve families. It adds variety to our shelves. It fills gaps. It gives us one more way to say “yes” when someone comes through our doors needing help.

I’ve learned that ministry is often built on a thousand unseen yeses.

A church says yes to organizing a food drive.

A family says yes to donating a few extra cans.

Volunteers say yes to sorting and stocking.

And donors say yes to sustaining the work month after month.

Together, those yeses become hope.

As we continue our Say YES! Campaign, we’re inviting people to become monthly donors who will help ensure Hunt County Shared Ministries can continue meeting the needs of today—and growing to meet the needs of tomorrow.

Because every time our community says yes, someone in need experiences the love of God through His people.

What Happens When a Community Says YES?

Over the past 10 days, I’ve had a front-row seat to the answer. You can Say YES! To a front row seat, too.

I’ve watched volunteers unload trucks in the summer heat. I’ve seen churches, nonprofits, businesses, and neighbors work together. I’ve seen food distributed to families, snacks shared with children, and resources stretched to help one more person.

I’ve seen a community Say YES! You can, too.

You’ve met volunteers who serve with joy. You’ve seen children receiving snacks, seniors receiving meals, and community members stepping up to care for one another.

What you’ve seen is more than a food pantry.

You’ve seen a community caring for its neighbors.

You’ve seen God’s people at work.

The need in Hunt County continues to grow. More families are seeking assistance. More seniors need support. More children depend on programs that help them thrive. Meeting those needs requires food, facilities, vehicles, volunteers, partnerships, and a dedicated staff who can connect people not only with food, but with hope, encouragement, and resources.

That’s why today I’m asking you to Say YES!

YES! to feeding hungry families.

YES! to supporting children and seniors.

YES! to helping neighbors through difficult seasons.

YES! to building a stronger network of churches, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers serving together.

More Than a Truckload of Water

This isn’t my prettiest photo.

I was hot, dressed for produce day, and thinking about a dozen things that needed attention. But I loved this moment. When I look back, I don’t see the heat or the long day. I see the beauty of what can happen when people and organizations choose to work together.

One of the things I’ve been learning during my first weeks at Hunt County Shared Ministries is that no single ministry, church, nonprofit, or volunteer group can meet every need alone.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas are working hard to make sure children in Greenville and Commerce have snacks this summer. Their funding is stretched. The need isn’t.

So when we had water, yogurt, and chips available, we shared.

This week it was the Boys & Girls Club. Other days it might be milk and produce for Meals on Wheels through SCRPT. Sometimes it’s Community Seeds helping one of our neighbors through a difficult season. Soon we’ll be gathering with our holiday box partners from across Hunt County to listen, learn, and find more ways to serve together.

The vision isn’t for Hunt County Shared Ministries to do everything.

The vision is for all of us to do what God has called us to do—and then link arms with one another so our neighbors experience His care in bigger ways than any of us could provide alone.

I believe some of God’s best work happens through relationships, trust, and collaboration.

And I think we’re just getting started.

Food Rescue Partners - FROM SHERRY

While most of us are still drinking our coffee, a group of volunteers is already on the move.

One of the things I've discovered during my first days at Hunt County Shared Ministries is how many different people and organizations it takes to keep food moving to our neighbors.

Some food arrives on trucks from the North Texas Food Bank.

Some comes through community food drives.

And some is picked up one donation at a time from local businesses throughout Greenville. We call these businesses Food Rescue Partners.

That's where these volunteers come in.

Day after day, they travel across our community collecting food from businesses that have chosen to donate to us rather than discard perfectly good food.

Meat.

Bread.

Produce.

Dairy products.

Prepared foods.

Food that still has value.

Food that still has a purpose.

By the time many of us are settling into our morning routine, these volunteers are already loading vehicles, sorting donations, and helping ensure that good food reaches neighbors instead of landfills.

As I saw our crew, I couldn't help but think about how many people it takes to feed a community.

Businesses say YES to donating.

Volunteers say YES to showing up.

Donors say YES to supporting our ministry.

Partner ministries say YES to helping distribute.

And together, neighbors are fed.

This is what Saying YES! looks like in action.
