We and the Riggs went to the DAV Mid-Winter Conference in Corpus Christi this past weekend. I am glad we were there together. Some interesting ideas were discussed, possibly some pertaining to our chapter. We will discuss and see what, if anything, can be worked out to better serve our veterans and their families.

Last week a bunch of the Chapter 81 members packed about 300 bags of articles to be handed out at the Christmas Party for the veterans at Bonham VA hospital this coming Friday. It was a good day, we had some fun, camaraderie, got the building decorated a bit and got our Christmas tree up and decorated. Building looks good inside and out. Christmas social coming p very soon, yummy!

This coming Wednesday is the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl harbor. I think we should all take at least a moment to stop and pause and remember what happened on that day and to give thanks to the men and women who passed on before us and those who served to get us to where we are today.

A very sad day on Sunday.
We lost a great American on October 31, 2016. James Curtis Flanagan was 91 years old and a survivor of Guadalcanal in WWII.

James Curtis Flanagan was born July 01, 1925 in Etowah, McMinn county, TN. To William and Margaret Flanagan. By 1930 they were living in Greenville, TX. James hitchhiked to Dallas with $2.00 and his father’s permission and joined the US Marines on August 11, 1942.

James was ordered to the Solomon Islands and on to Guadalcanal where he was wounded.

Jim was a platoon sergeant, so valuable to his commander, he was sent to San Francisco to rehab. From there to N. Carolina where he was honorably discharged in 1945. Jim got only a "bond" paper discharge, and has never received a proper Discharge Certificate. His dad fought in WW-I in France.

Jim’s wife Edith died in 1999 and is buried in Greenville, TX. They had a son and a daughter, both still living.
