Last night, community leaders, partners, friends, and colleagues gathered at the Poinsett Club to celebrate Rev. Dr. Baxter Wynn as he received The Order of the Palmetto — South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. Presented by Representative Chandra Dillard on behalf of Governor Henry McMaster, the award recognizes individuals whose lifelong leadership, service, and dedication have made a profound impact on the state and its people.
For more than four decades, Rev. Dr. Wynn has shaped the Upstate through compassionate ministry, civic leadership, advocacy, and mentorship. His work has consistently brought people together to strengthen community life and expand opportunity for others, with a focus on affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, and collaborative leadership that helps build a more connected and compassionate Greenville.
More than his accomplishments, Rev. Dr. Wynn’s legacy is reflected in the relationships he has built, the people he has encouraged, and the example he continues to set through faithful, humble, and community-centered leadership.
His influence continues to be felt through his longstanding connection to both United Ministries and the Community Foundation of Greenville, where his presence and guidance have helped strengthen mission-driven work over time.
United Ministries and were honored to host this special evening celebrating a leader whose impact on the Upstate will continue for generations.
Congratulations, Rev. Dr. Wynn, on this well-deserved honor.
