Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony

Today, the City of Greenville proudly raised the Juneteenth flag—a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience, faith, and hope.

Statement of Mayor Errick D. Simmons

“Juneteenth is more than a celebration of emancipation. It is a solemn reminder of the unyielding spirit of a people who refused to surrender hope and a tribute to the sacrifices, courage, and perseverance of those who transformed pain into progress.

As we gathered to honor this sacred day, we reflected on the legacy left by generations who prayed, persevered, and pressed forward so that we might enjoy greater opportunity and purpose. Their journey reminds us that freedom delayed is not freedom denied.

May we never forget that our ancestors survived what they were not meant to survive, overcame what they were not expected to overcome, and left us a legacy that calls each of us to serve, uplift, and unite.

Today, we celebrate freedom.
We honor heritage.
We embrace hope.

And together, we continue the unfinished work of creating a more perfect union.”

Happy Juneteenth!

Strengthening Local Businesses Through AI is a Continuing Mission!

Congratulations to the participants who, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, successfully completed the City of Greenville’s AI Tech Readiness 6-Week Bootcamp and received certificates recognizing their dedication to embracing innovation and strengthening their businesses through technology.

Over the course of six weeks, business owners explored AI Foundations, AI Marketing, Customer Service Automation & Chatbots, Scheduling, Operations & Productivity, and AI Implementation. To conclude the program, each participant delivered a unique demonstration showcasing how they will apply the knowledge and tools gained through the bootcamp to enhance and grow their business.

This initiative reflects Greenville’s commitment to building economic resilience by equipping local entrepreneurs with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.

Special thanks to Gene Finley, owner of CompuRecycling Center, for organizing this impactful opportunity, Amber Couer of ConnectMS for serving as facilitator and guiding participants throughout the program and Mississippi Delta Community College extending the MDCC Greenville Campus as a host site for this endeavor.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons and the City of Greenville applaud these business owners for investing in their future and helping drive innovation and economic growth across our community.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons Wishes All A Happy Juneteenth!

“Today, we commemorate and celebrate the day freedom reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. Juneteenth is a reminder of our nation’s journey toward liberty, justice, and equality, and it calls upon us to continue building communities rooted in hope, opportunity, and unity.

As we honor the sacrifices and resilience of those who came before us, may we also celebrate the rich culture, heritage, and contributions that have shaped our nation and our community.

On behalf of the City of Greenville, I wish everyone a joyful, safe, and meaningful Juneteenth. May we continue moving forward together—united in purpose and committed to creating a brighter future for generations to come.”

Happy Juneteenth!

Mayor Errick D. Simmons congratulates the outstanding students recognized during the 37th Annual The 100 Black Men of the MS Delta INC. Scholarship Awards Banquet! As a proud member of the 100 Black Men of the Mississippi Delta, Mayor Simmons congratulates each of the 2026 scholarship recipients for your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. You represent the promise of tomorrow, and we are proud to invest in your future.

Special thanks to Dr. Steven J. Jones, President of Mississippi Delta Community College, for delivering an inspiring and impactful keynote address. His message challenged and encouraged our young people to pursue greatness through education, leadership, and service.

This year’s banquet was especially meaningful as the program was dedicated to the memory of Brother Evereth Stanton, former Mayor of Shaw, Mississippi, an unwavering advocate for public education and a devoted servant-leader who dedicated his life to uplifting his community. His legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to future generations continues to inspire us all.

Statement of Mayor Simmons

“I commend the members of the 100 Black Men of the Mississippi Delta for 37 years of mentoring, educating, and empowering young people throughout the Delta. A huge thanks to scholarship sponsors, donors, and supporters for investing in the future generation.

As this year’s theme reminds us:

“Honoring the Past, Serving the Present, and Inspiring Future Leaders Through Education — Building for Tomorrow.”

Congratulations again to the Class of 2026 scholarship recipients. Continue striving for excellence, embracing opportunities, and becoming the leaders our communities need. The future is bright because of you.”
