Week 12 has been straight insanity… and it’s only Wednesday 😮‍💨🔥

Class 008 has been out here collecting bruises, sweat stains, and character development all week long. Monday we teamed up with the 761st Engineer Firefighting Team and let recruits get some extra time on the helicopter prop. Nothing says “good morning, welcome back” quite like running into a helicopter fire while instructors yell lovingly in your direction. We love a good collab 🤝

Tuesday they spent the day working on Driver/Operator skills. Big trucks, tight spaces, stressed instructors… you know, the usual. 🙈

Today we loaded up and headed to Bowling Green to train with Warren County Fire Department, and they absolutely did not let these recruits have an easy day. Training took place at two county-owned properties where recruits rotated through real-world scenarios that tested every ounce of brain power and teamwork they had left.

Stations included:
• Hoseline Deployment
• Roof Operations
• Search & Rescue Techniques
• Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Operations

Meanwhile instructors stood around pretending not to notice recruits questioning every life choice that led them here 😬

Huge thank you to Warren County Fire Department for the incredible hospitality and for welcoming us in for such a great training opportunity. We’re also thankful for the on-duty and volunteer personnel who helped make the day run smoothly, along with the crew from BGFD Engine 3 for jumping into several scenarios with us.

Class 008 may be running on caffeine, ibuprofen, and pure survival instinct at this point… but they continue to show up ready to work every single day and that says a whole lot about this group. Proud of these little smoke eaters 👏

Thursday absolutely earned its own post because Class 008 chose ✨suspended feral shenanigans✨ and somehow made it look good. 😎🔥

The morning was all ropes, knots, and learning the ins and outs of rope rescue in the classroom. The afternoon? Hanging upside down and rappelling off the 3-story training tower like a bunch of caffeinated raccoons with trust issues. 🦝😂

Some recruits lived for this moment. Others questioned every life choice that led them there!! BUT (almost) every single one of them dug deep, pushed through the nerves, and absolutely rocked it. I’m super proud of them. Watching confidence kick fear in the teeth never gets old. 💪🏼

They had incredible rope rescue instructors who talked them through every step and helped them safely make their way over the ledge… which is extra funny considering I spent the majority of last week talking them OFF the ledge while they were spiraling about IFSAC skills testing. (Which they crushed, by the way. 💅)

It is wild to think we only have TWO weeks left with this class. These recruits have been such a fun group from the start…hardworking, hilarious, determined, and constantly improving week after week. They really are incredibly special humans and I’m thankful to be a small part of their journey. 🥰

Keep pushing, Class 008. Y’all are doing amazing things. ❤️

Enjoy your weekends, friends!! Back at it Monday. 😎🔥

This Sunday, flags across Kentucky will be lowered to half-staff in honor of our fallen firefighters.

Behind every name is a family forever changed, a crew with an empty seat, and a sacrifice that will never be forgotten. Our recruits are quickly realizing what this job truly means: courage, brotherhood, and service above self.

As we honor the fallen during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, please keep their families, friends, and departments in your thoughts this weekend. ❤️🚒

It’s officially official! (Or mayyyyybe it has been for a while and I just flaked on getting this announcement together!)

Make plans to join us, but notice the time zone!! We are on Central Time here at The Fire Academy!!

Do NOT use Google Maps to try and find us. You’ll end up in Never Never Land. Take the Western KY Pkwy to exit 53. Turn left at the end of the ramp and proceed to the caution light directly in front of Wendell H Ford Training Center. Make a right at the caution light and pull into the SFRT District 3 parking lot. Hang a slight left at their building and follow the gravel road up over the hill - you’ll find us there. 😉

Week ELEVEN… excuse me, what?! 😅 If you listen closely, you can HEAR the ruckus! Whew! What a week! And we ain’t even done yet! 💪🏼

It’s been an incredibly busy week for Class 008, but man has it been a good one. These recruits have been putting in WORK with search and rescue reps, and it’s showing. Their techniques are improving, their confidence is growing, and I’ve even heard instructors bragging on their grit 👏 (you know it’s real when that happens). So proud of this group!!

It’s wild to think they just rolled in here not long ago. Time flies when you’re having fun… for me anyway 😏 I know it hasn’t been easy on the recruits being away from their families while I get to go home to mine every night. That kind of sacrifice doesn’t go unnoticed. Their dedication is something to be proud of…and their departments are getting absolute GEMS 💎 and to all you mommas, dads, wives and girlfriends, you can have them back soooo soon!! 🥰

Here’s a big ol’ photo dump for you! I might just outdo myself and drop TWO this week…maaaaayyyyybe!! 😉

One more day and we’ll send them home to you for the weekend!! Hang tight!

And as always…huge thank you to our staff and instructors. We’re lucky to have y’all holding it down day in and day out 🙌

Hey heyyy, party people!! 👋🏼

Week 10. TEN. As in… double digits. As in… who gave permission for that?! Because I’d like a word 😤

These recruits?! They understood the assignment AND added extra credit!! 💪🏼 “Busy” doesn’t even cover it!! They’re out here working like the finish line owes them money!! 🤑 Skills on skills on skills, and sharpening them like their lives depend on it (because…well, they kinda do).

And let’s talk about our instructors real quick…because when I say we hit the jackpot, I mean we HIT IT. They’ve shown up, showed out, and poured everything into making sure these guys (and our girl who can absolutely hold her own 💁🏻‍♀️) are ready to dominate. No crumbs left.

Now it’s go-time, baby!! IFSAC skills tests are here, and it’s time to step up and stand on business!! So go ahead and send all the prayers, good vibes, lucky socks, whatever you’ve got and send it NOW. We’ve got nothing but faith in them… but a little extra hype never hurt anybody 👏🏼

And as always, I’m ridiculously proud of this group. Like… it’s actually annoying how good they are. Talented, respectful, and the way they ride for each other? Yeah, yeah… it gets me 🥹 but don’t get used to me being soft.

Week 10. Stay feral 🦝 Finish strong 💪🏼

Some moments deserve more than a quick mention…and this was one of them. And if you know me, by now you know nothing I put on here is “quick”. 😉

On Wednesday, we took a field trip… just like the old days. But this one carried a little more weight. We had the opportunity to visit the Owensboro Fire Department and sit in on a presentation that truly left an impact on all of us.

Jo Terry spoke to our recruits about PTSD - what it looks like, how it shows up, and why recognizing it early matters more than we sometimes realize. She didn’t just teach. She connected. She reminded all of us that behind the uniform is a human being, and taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your skills.

In a profession where strength is often measured by how much you can carry, it was powerful to be reminded that strength also means knowing when to speak up, when to check in, and when to take care of yourself and each other.

We are incredibly grateful to Jo for sharing her time, her knowledge, and her heart with our recruits. Conversations like these matter!! And they will stay with us long after the academy ends. If you ever have the opportunity to sit in on her presentation, I encourage you to do so. Thank you The Chip Terry Fund for First Responders for your dedication to serving our first responders.

Look at me…TWO posts in one week?! I know, I know!! I’m just as shocked as you are 💁🏻‍♀️

HazMat Skills 2.0 coming in HOT!! And guess who made their grand return? The rubber duckies. 🐥 Icons. Legends. Truly the backbone of this operation. 🥰

And word on the street (aka a very reliable, slightly louder birdie 🐦) is that they actually LISTENED the other day 👀 and came back out here duplicating their decon setup like PROS. Smooth. Clean. No notes. We LOVE to see it 🙌🏼👏🏻

The guys (and our one standout queen 👑) put in the work today. Fresh outta PowerPoint prison and straight into “recess”…which, turns out, they handle VERY well. Suspiciously well. 🧐🤨

And before anyone gets sensitive…yes, yes… we LOVE a good PowerPoint too. (No really, we DO!!) No shade. 😎 Just… maybe a little less love than being outside not clicking “next slide” 183 times 🥴

Week 9 is winding down and 10 is quickly approaching….I’m sorry, who approved this timeline?? Because it doesn’t even feel real at this point.

Keep it up, y’all… at this rate I’m gonna have to keep posting and honestly, that’s a risk for everyone involved 😬🦝🔥

Week 9 is in full swing… and yes, you’re getting a mid-week post because apparently I’m delivering on the “I’ll make it up to you” Forgive me yet?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

BUT…Tuesday? Oh, Tuesday earned its own spotlight. 💙💛

Recruits FINALLY escaped the classroom, and I’m pretty sure I witnessed actual tears of joy. 🥲 Freedom looks good on them. They got hands-on with HazMat skills… and let me just say, those suits? Straight up Sesame Street vibes. Tell me you don’t see Big Bird and Cookie Monster out there. I dare you.🐥🍪

Now the dance moves… absolutely not Sesame Street approved. 😬 But we’ll save that stuff for another day. 🫣

And just when they thought it couldn’t get any better, Instructor Smith came through and turned it into a full-blown Sunday service—taking us to CHURCH with alllll the motivation a person can stand. 🙌🏼🔥

As always, recruits are simply CRUSHING it. And so are our instructors. Literally, I couldn’t be more proud. 🥹

Happy Hump Day, Friends!! 💁🏻‍♀️
