My answers:
1. When did you become a U.S. citizen?
I became a United States citizen many years ago after coming to Greenville as a Rotary Exchange Student in 1986. Since then, I have proudly served this country as a United States Marine, a federal employee for 28 years, and now as a candidate for Darke County Commissioner.
2. Do you live in Darke County and, if not, will you be moving here?
Yes, I live in Darke County. Greenville has been my home since 1986. Although my federal career required me to work in different parts of the country, I maintained my residence and roots in Darke County throughout my career. I never stopped calling this community home.
3. How long have you been interested in this position, and have you attended meetings to learn what the position is responsible for?
I have spent the last several months seriously evaluating the needs of Darke County and learning more about the responsibilities of a County Commissioner. I have attended Commissioner meetings, met with local leaders, toured county facilities, and spoken with residents to better understand both the opportunities and challenges facing our county.
4. What part of the position would you be most valuable in?
My greatest strength is leadership, management, budgeting, and strategic planning. During my career with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Marine Corps, I managed large organizations, major budgets, complex operations, and diverse workforces. I believe those experiences will help me make informed decisions, improve transparency, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly.
5. Darke County is a large farming community. What do you know about farming?
I am not a farmer, and I will never pretend to be. However, I recognize that agriculture is the backbone of Darke County’s economy and identity. I have spent years living in this community, listening to farmers, business owners, and residents. I support protecting farmland, preserving property rights, maintaining strong rural infrastructure, and ensuring farmers have a seat at the table when major decisions affect their land and livelihoods.
6. Have you met with members of the Sheriff’s Department and explained your platform?
I have met with members of law enforcement and have toured the county jail. Public safety is one of my priorities, and I support our Sheriff’s Office, local police departments, firefighters, and EMS personnel. I intend to continue meeting with public safety professionals throughout the campaign to hear their concerns and learn how county government can better support them.
7. Have you spent time with the current Commissioners, and do you feel comfortable working with those who will be in office?
I have attended meetings and have had conversations with local officials. Regardless of political party or personal differences, I believe a Commissioner must be willing to work professionally with everyone for the benefit of Darke County. If elected, my focus will be cooperation, transparency, and results.
8. What is your position on using farmland for data centers, solar farms, wind farms, and similar developments?
Every project should be evaluated carefully and on its own merits. My priority is protecting Darke County’s farmland, water resources, property owners, and rural character. I do not support development that is forced upon communities without transparency and public input. Any proposal involving data centers, solar farms, wind projects, or other large developments should undergo thorough review of its impact on agriculture, infrastructure, water usage, property values, and long-term benefits to county residents before any decisions are made.
Thank you Norma Bolinger Glunt again for taking the time to ask these questions. Whether someone agrees with me or not, I welcome respectful conversations because informed voters make for a stronger community.
