GPATS GPATS (Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study)

The Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study (GPATS) is a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the federally-mandated regional entity that 1) programs the use of all State and Federal funding for multi-modal transportation projects, 2) works closely with SCDOT and other State and Federal Agencies on transportation projects, 3) objectively evaluates priorities and alternatives, and 4) enga

ges and informs the public on projects and planning efforts. GPATS serves the Urbanized Areas of Greenville and Pickens Counties along with parts of Anderson, Spartanburg, and Laurens Counties, as well as 16 municipalities.

Our neighbors at the Spartanburg Area Transportation Study (SPATS) are hosting a virtual public information meeting for their 2050 LRTP Update. Take a look at the information below to participate:

The Spartanburg Area Transportation Study (SPATS) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) invites community members to participate in a Virtual Public Information Meeting (VPIM), available now through September 12, 2026.

The VPIM, available at sc-stateplanning.com/spats-2050-lrtp, gives the public an opportunity to review the draft recommendations and proposed priority projects for the SPATS 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). Community members are encouraged to provide feedback through the VPIM survey and comment form before the plan is finalized.

Process: The VPIM builds on feedback gathered during in-person meetings held in May 2026. Based on community input about transportation needs and priorities across the region, the project team developed the draft plan and proposed priority projects. SPATS is now seeking additional feedback to help refine the project list before the LRTP is finalized and adopted.
Community members are encouraged to:
• Review the online materials.
• Complete the survey and comment form.
• Submit feedback by September 12, 2026.

Tomorrow from 8am-12pm we will be at the Simpsonville Farmer's Market where you can can review draft transportation project ideas for the Horizon 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan, ask questions, and provide feedback. Materials will highlight proposed improvements across all modes and reflect prior community input, technical analysis, and regional priorities.

Yesterday was walking safety, today is biking safety! Take a look below for some tips on how to bike around safely.

A quick bike check before every ride helps keep kids safe and ready for the road. Wear a properly fitted helmet, follow traffic signs, and use hand signals so others know where you're going. Use a bike lane or shared path when available; if neither are, ride on the far right side of the road. Reduce distractions by never using headphone or a cellphone while riding and keep your eyes up to watch for vehicles.

Remember: ABC + Helmet; Air, Brakes, Chain, and a helmet for every ride!

Back to school is here and we want to make sure that everyone makes it to school safely!

Walking to school is a great way to stay active, but safety must come first. When available, always use sidewalks, cross at marked crosswalks, and stay alert by putting away phones and headphones. Keep your head up and and focus on watching for dangerous traffic.

Remember: Stop. Look. Wait. Walk. Every crossing, every time.

Back to school is coming soon and we have some tips to make sure that your child makes it safely to school. Join us over the next few days as we share tips on how to walk and bike safely! Regardless of whether you and your child will just be walking to the bus stop or biking all the way to school, we want to make sure that you have all the information you need to get them there safely.
