2025 Healthy Greenville Grant – GHA awarded the City of Travelers Rest $249,723.00 to implement the Gateway Fitness Park.

The Gateway Fitness Park in Travelers Rest, SC, is a proposed free outdoor fitness space designed to enhance physical activity and community well-being. Located downtown adjacent to a public parking lot and Gateway Park, the project aims to provide accessible exercise equipment for 35 users in a circular layout that encourages social interaction. Targeting the city's 9,000 residents and visitors, with a focus on low-income and socially isolated groups, the park will complement the existing Swamp Rabbit Trail. The fitness part seeks to remove barriers to exercise while supporting community wellness goals.

2025 Healthy Greenville Grant – GHA awarded the Julie Valentine Center $996,000 to address the Mental Health Impacts of Child Abuse/Sexual Assault.

The Julie Valentine Center in Greenville, South Carolina, is a pioneering organization addressing mental health impacts for child and adult survivors of abuse and sexual assault. The center provides comprehensive, free trauma-focused mental health services including individual and group therapy using evidence-based treatments. As the first R**e Crisis Center in South Carolina and a Nationally Accredited Child Advocacy Center, the organization offers a holistic, trauma-informed approach.

– In 2025, Greenville Health Authority awarded a Healthy Greenville, Too Grant of $10,000 to Upstate Greenways and Trails Alliance. This grant supports a Swamp Rabbit Trail widening pilot project using an innovative permeable gravel paver system. This project provides enhanced access and safety to trail users. Local residents of all demographics use the Swamp Rabbit Trail for transportation, exercise, and recreation.

– Greenville Health Authority awarded a $5,000 Healthy Greenville, Too Grant last year to Our Upstate SC for its Resilient Upstate Behavioral Health Collaborative, partnered with Ten at the Top - Upstate South Carolina.

This project engages community members, businesses, nonprofits, and faith organizations to share behavioral health resources and expand access to care across Greenville County. Through collaboration and outreach, Our Upstate SC will ensure that individuals in need can connect with vital services, reducing stigma and strengthening mental health support systems.

Last week, Meals on Wheels Greenville presented Greenville Health Authority with an appreciation gift in recognition of the $500,000 Healthy Greenville Grant to help fund the new facility designed to maximize efficiency and service opportunities. The wooden spoon is reflective of the donor wall at MOW’s new facility. GHA is incredibly proud to support MOW Greenville and the work they do to address the growing issue of hunger and lack of food access in our community!

It is our sincere pleasure to thank Greenville Health Authority Trustee Dr. Janet Shelley for her six and a half years of service. She concluded her term this past week at our April Board meeting.

During her time on the Board, Dr. Shelley served in a variety of capacities, including service as a long-time member of the Governance Committee and Chair of the Lease Committee. She provided exemplary leadership and vision for the Board as she served as the Vice-Chair of the Board!

She will continue in leadership with her recent appointment at the Beaufort County Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, S.C. Best wishes and thank you to Dr. Janet Shelley!

TCMU’s innovative, hands-on exhibits and research-based programming foster inclusive, play-based learning experiences that bridge gaps in early childhood education across Greenville County. The “Breaking Barriers” program ensures all children can benefit from learning advantages through equitable museum access for Greenville children and families, where financial barriers may make it difficult for them to visit.

GHA awarded a $5,000 grant to the Slater-Marietta Community Association to support its Farmers Market, which brings fresh produce, local makers, and health education to the Slater Marietta community and beyond.
