Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department We at the MTVFD take great pride in providing fire protection and first response here in Southern Decatur County. Thanks to all of our supporters!

We operate a small department that relies on community support and donations. The dept was incorporated in 1953 from the town department to Marion Township VFD. That was when the old station was built and bought the 1953 GMC pumper. The summer of 2004 the current station was built and we moved in Dec 04.

Today, one of our own begins his path to becoming a Paramedic. Starting in the Spring class with Franciscan Health! Rhett Martin joined our department in 2025 and in a short time has achieved his EMT-Basic, Fire 1, and Fire 2 certifications, putting him on the path to becoming a career fireman. Rhett also works part time with Ripley County EMS and Shelbyville Fire Department.

Rhett, we wish you all of the success in this next step in progressing your education and knowledge. We couldn’t be more proud of all the accomplishments. Keep pushing forward! We are rooting for you!

Vehicle Fire

At 20:13 lastnight MTVFD and Letts EMS were dispatched for a vehicle fire. Engine 526, Tanker 527, and Medic 449 responded. Units arrived to find heavy fire from a small suv. Two occupants were able to escape without injury. Fire was extinguished within minutes of arrival . Upon their arrival, Medic 449 prepared equipment and made contact with the owners who refused assessment.

Units returned to service shortly after 21:00.
