❄️ WINTER STORM SAFETY ALERT ❄️
A significant winter storm is expected to impact our area, bringing extreme cold, snow, and dangerous conditions. Severe weather increases the risk of cold-related injuries, frozen plumbing, and home heating fires. Preparing ahead of time is one of the most effective ways to keep yourself, your family, and our first responders safe.
✅ PREPARE AHEAD
• Fully charge phones and backup power sources
• Gather critical supplies (food, water, prescriptions)
• Test generators, flashlights, and emergency lighting
• When possible, park vehicles off roadways to assist snow removal operations
🏠 PROTECT YOUR HOME
• Maintain indoor temperatures at 55°F or higher
• Allow faucets to run at a slow drip to prevent pipe freeze-ups
• Open sink cabinets to allow warm air to reach plumbing
• Keep garage doors closed during extreme cold
• Know the location of your home’s main water shutoff valve
🔥 HEATING & FIRE SAFETY
• Keep space heaters a minimum of 3 feet from combustible materials
• Never use grills, ovens, or generators indoors for heat
• Ensure vents, chimneys, and exhaust pipes remain clear of snow and ice
• Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms
🚗 TRAVEL & COLD WEATHER SAFETY
• Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary
• Dress in layers and protect exposed skin
• Limit outdoor exposure—frostbite can develop rapidly
• If travel cannot be avoided:
• Reduce speed and allow extra stopping distance
• Keep fuel tanks at least half full
• Carry a winter emergency kit (blankets, charger, shovel, food, water)
• If you become stranded, remain in your vehicle and call for assistance
🐾 ANIMALS
• Bring pets indoors—cold temperatures are life-threatening
🧓 LOOK OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER
• Check on elderly neighbors, individuals without adequate heat, and those living alone
