Dear Citizens of Greensboro,
I am honored to address you today on behalf of the Greensboro Police Department as we welcome a new member to our law enforcement family. It is with great pride and a deep sense of duty that I announce the addition of Officer Charice Cosby to our ranks. Officer Cosby joins her twin sister, Officer Patrice Cosby, who has already proven herself to be a dedicated and dependable member of our team. The twin siblings’ decision to pursue careers in public service together embodies the resilience, commitment, and unity that define Greensboro’s public safety community.
Officer Charice Cosby completed her training at the regional police academy, graduating from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Class 007. This achievement reflects her perseverance, discipline, and readiness to serve the people of Greensboro. I have no doubt that her education, hands-on experience, and strong moral compass will contribute meaningfully to our mission of protecting lives, safeguarding property, and strengthening the trust between the police department and the communities we serve.
As Chief of Police, I want to share a few important notes about Officer Cosby’s role, responsibilities, and the standards by which she will be held accountable:
Professionalism and service**: Officer Cosby embodies the principles of integrity, respect, and responsibility. She understands that every interaction with a resident or visitor is an opportunity to demonstrate the department’s commitment to fair treatment, due process, and the sanctity of human life.
She will pursue calls for service with composure, thoroughness, and a focus on de-escalation when appropriate.
She will engage with families, businesses, schools, and neighborhood organizations to create safer and more connected communities.
Community partnership**: We believe public safety is a collaborative effort. Officer Cosby will actively engage with community members to listen, learn, and respond to concerns in constructive ways.
She will participate in community meetings, neighborhood walks, and outreach events designed to foster trust and transparency.
She will work with residents to identify local needs, such as traffic safety improvements, youth engagement opportunities, and residential security measures.
Professional development**: Ongoing training and learning are priorities for every officer in Greensboro. Officer Cosby will continue to pursue advanced coursework, scenario-based training, and collaborative exercises to stay at the forefront of best practices in policing.
She will be equipped to apply modern tactics, use of force guidelines, and technology responsibly and ethically.
She will contribute to departmental knowledge by sharing insights gained from her academy experience and field investigations.
Accountability and ethics**: Upholding the law and the public’s trust is non-negotiable. Officer Cosby will operate under the highest ethical standards and will be held to the same rigorous performance expectations as all members of the department.
She will adhere to our policies, procedures, and the core values that guide our work every day.
She will be subject to regular assessments, feedback, and performance reviews to ensure that excellence remains the norm.
The addition of Officer Charice Cosby alongside Officer Patrice Cosby presents a unique and meaningful moment for our city. It is a testament to Greensboro’s enduring commitment to family, service, and community safety. I have every confidence that the Cosby sisters will bring energy, empathy, and a collaborative spirit to their duties, further strengthening the positive impact we bring to families and neighborhoods across our city.
To the residents of Greensboro, I want to reiterate a few assurances as Officer Charice Cosby begins her career with us:
Your safety remains our paramount priority. Our officers are trained to enforce the law with fairness, while safeguarding the rights and dignity of every person.
Open communication is foundational. We encourage you to share concerns, observations, and questions with your officers and neighborhood policing teams. Your feedback informs our strategies and helps us allocate resources effectively.
A culture of transparency guides our daily operations. We will continue to publish information about crime trends, departmental initiatives, and community outreach efforts so you can see the impact of our work and hold us to high standards.
Please join me in welcoming Officer Charice Cosby to the Greensboro Police Department. We are grateful for her decision to serve our city, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have on public safety, trust, and community well-being. I also extend my gratitude to Officer Patrice Cosby for her ongoing dedication and for serving as a strong example of service within our department and our community.
Together, we will continue to build a safer Greensboro—one where every resident feels secure, heard, and valued.
Respectfully,
Chief Monford
