As the leading private, non-profit child and family services agency in the state of North Carolina, Children’s Home Society of NC provides a broad range of services but our goal is simple: to be a compassionate advocate for families. We specialize in education and prevention programs, family preservation, and adoption and foster care. Ultimately, everything we do is built on our foundational belief that strong families have the power to transform communities.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black and African Americans throughout our nation's history.

Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, celebrate progress, and continue building stronger communities where children and families can thrive.

“I just want a family.”💙

Nevaeh, 17, is bubbly, creative, and ready for her next chapter. A recent high school graduate, she dreams of attending college to study child development and become a teacher for children with special needs.

She enjoys cooking, art, spending time outdoors, and expressing her creativity through makeup, hair, and nails. She is confident in who she is and works hard to encourage herself with positive self-talk and determination.

More than anything, she hopes for a loving, supportive family who will celebrate her accomplishments, encourage her goals, and remind her how proud they are of her.
Could that be your family? https://vist.ly/5833f

Thank you to WXII Audrey Biesk and WXII 12 NEWS for sharing Nevaeh’s story! Thank you to Taste Buds Kitchen for having us.

Every story shared this season had one thing in common: hope.

In the season one finale of "In Real Life: Foster Care Unfiltered," host and Foster Care to Permanency Executive Director, Shannon Enoch and Rebecca Starnes, Chief Program Officer at Children's Home Society of North Carolina, reflect on the families, professionals, and individuals who courageously shared their experiences with foster care.

From stories of reunification and adoption to sibling connections and overcoming trauma, these conversations revealed both the challenges and the possibilities that exist when children have caring adults in their corner.

Join us as we look back on season one and ahead to what's next. 🎧 Listen to "Reflecting on Season One: Real Voices, Real Challenges, and Real Hope in Foster Care" at https://vist.ly/57wmy

👋 Welcome to CHS, Vaibhav Giani, A***n Khana, Dabney Hughes, and Yash Chadha!

This summer, these Luther Hodges Scholars from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are spending time with Children's Home Society of North Carolina to learn how mission and management work together to create lasting impact for children and families.

Throughout their experience, they will engage with CHS leaders across programs, finance, technology, marketing, philanthropy, human resources, and strategy to gain a behind-the-scenes look at nonprofit leadership and the many ways organizations work to strengthen communities.

We're excited to share our work with these talented students and support the next generation of leaders.

👋 Welcome, Ayanai "Yan" Thomas!

As Children's Home Society of North Carolina continues to serve children and families across the state, preserving our history is an important part of honoring the generations who came before us.

Yan, a master's student in Library and Information Science at UNC Greensboro, is helping CHS archive and catalog historical photos, documents, and videos collected throughout our more than 120-year history. As part of her capstone project, she is helping ensure these stories and records are preserved for future generations.

We're grateful for Yan's expertise and dedication as she helps protect and organize important parts of the CHS story.

MariJayne is still awaiting adoption and hoping to find a caring, supportive family to call her own. At 10 years old, she is bright, determined, and always eager to learn. She loves math, enjoys helping her classmates, and takes pride in doing her best.

She also has a big heart for animals and dreams of having a pet bird, cat, or dog someday. She hopes for a family with siblings and parents who will love her, support her, and help her feel safe and protected. Are you ready to add her to your family? https://vist.ly/578eh

Thank you to WXII Audrey Biesk and WXII 12 NEWS for sharing MariJayne’s story! Thank you to Discovery Place Science for having us.

Every placement is cherished. ❤️

In this clip, CHS foster parents Dana and Donna reflect on the courage it takes to foster and the lasting impact caring adults can have in a child's life.

Their story is a powerful reminder that foster care is about helping children heal, grow, and experience the support of a caring community. Watch their full story: https://vist.ly/574jk

True or False: Returning home is always an “easy” transition for children in foster care.
False. Even positive transitions can feel overwhelming for children in foster care. Reunification often brings excitement, uncertainty, grief, and anxiety all at once.

Children may wonder:
Will things feel the same?
Will I still feel safe?
Will I miss my foster family?

Support, patience, and consistency help make reunification more successful.

To strengthen families, we must meet them where they are. 🤝 We're grateful to support Routes to Ready in Guilford County with programs like Community Navigation and HealthySteps.😄

Routes to Ready, supported by the Duke Endowment, works to connect early childhood services and create a seamless ecosystem for supporting new parents and their children.

We’re excited to share that Children’s Home Society of North Carolina received two Telly Awards for our “Real Families, Real Impact” foster care awareness initiative! 🎉

🏆 Silver Telly Award — Nonprofit & Not-for-Profit Campaign: "Real Families, Real Impact"
🏆 Bronze Telly Award — Reality Series: “Real Families, Real Impact: Meredith & Sione”

“Real Families, Real Impact” was created to give families an honest look at foster care through the voices and experiences of real CHS foster parents. By sharing the joys, challenges, and realities of the journey, the series helps foster understanding, connection, and awareness around the need for foster families across North Carolina.
