DUCK Lab- Development and Understanding of Children's Knowledge at UNCG

DUCK Lab- Development and Understanding of Children's Knowledge at UNCG A non-profit organization dedicated to the study of children’s social and cognitive development.

The DUCK Lab consists of a team of researchers (professors, graduate students, and undergraduate students) who are interested in several aspects of 2- to 10-year-old children’s development, such as:

*How children make social judgments about other people
*Sources of information that children use to learn about the world around them
*The ability to understand and use rules
*Memory development and b

ehavioral control

Our research provides insight about children's skill and strategy development that informs educational curricula and interventions. Participants in our studies are volunteers in the Greensboro community who generously offer their time to help us run our studies. We greatly appreciate the support that we have received from each and every parent and child in the Greensboro community! If you haven't signed up with us already and you are interested in participating, please contact us via phone or e-mail (and direct your query to Ally, our lab manager). Visits can be arranged at your convenience – mornings, afternoons, and weekends. Studies typically take 30 minutes to 1 hour and we provide free and convenient access to parking, as well as refreshments and small prizes for your child. All of our studies are conducted as fun games that children typically enjoy and you are welcome to watch your child participate the entire time. This page will keep parents informed about ongoing research in our center and also provide scientific information and resources on child development.

Good Morning DUCK Lab Fans!

Check out our latest blog post for Psychology Today. From social media to the New York Times and the Washington Post, there has been a great deal of attention to celebrity bodies, and in particular, speculation about Ariana Grande's weight and health status. It's important to talk about the extreme thin ideal because it is associated with eating disorders, disordered eating, and other physical and mental health issues. But we explain why discussing celebrity bodies is unfruitful and what to do instead to build healthy body image for both women and their daughters.

We can best help girls by modeling lives not centered on celebrity culture.

Calling all Moms: This weekend, Lark Greensboro is generously hosting our discussion on how to foster healthy body image & wellness behaviors for you and your daughter(s). Healthy body image is critical for both mental and physical well-being, and it's important that we set our girls up to be resilient to diet and social media culture beginning early in life.

We'll offer actionable, science-based, developmentally appropriate tips and tools that can be implemented in daily life. Join us!

Girls start feeling dissatisfied with their bodies as early as preschool - and the adults around them have more power to change that than anyone. 💛

Join Beyond Body Positive co-authors Dr. Janet Boseovski & Dr. Ashleigh Gallagher for a science-based, interactive talk on raising girls with a healthy body image (and building your own).
