Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers, Inc 501(c)3 Non Profit The Greensboro/Guilford County Crime Stoppers Program, Inc. is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

It is not prohibited from accepting donations from any city, town, or other governmental subdivision, and has accepted donations from such governmental entities in the past. The program, however, is not part of any regularly funded governmental budget. Rather, the program relies on support from individuals and businesses through direct donations, as well as on sponsorships, grants, and fundraisers. Crime Stoppers gives the community a voice, without fear of retaliation or retribution!

Our Story

The Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers program represents a unique partnership formed for a common cause; the safety, security and protection against theft and crime for the residents and citizens of Greensboro and Guilford County. Crime Stoppers is a Community Policing program which brings together components of law enforcement, the community, and the media to solve crime. Law enforcement liaisons advertise, via the media, unsolved crimes or wanted persons, promising confidentiality and anonymity for the callers. This is accomplished through a series of code numbers given to the callers by the liaison. The civilian board of directors raises funds for the reward fund and oversees the recommendation of reward amounts for the specific payoffs as well as overseeing the payoff process. When asked about the importance of the program, Sheriff BJ Barnes stated “Why is the Crime Stoppers program important to the people of Guilford County?…..because it provides the average citizen with an avenue for reporting crime while remaining anonymous. What better way to make a positive impact in our community.”
