Greensboro Housing Coalition

Greensboro Housing Coalition The Greensboro Housing Coalition is a referral, informational, and educational organization, assisting clients with a variety of housing problems. We can help.

You can too - get involved with your coalition today!! Greensboro Housing Coalition started with a small group of outspoken housing advocates whose ideas were often unwelcome intrusions into “business as usual” for local officials, developers and landlords. Today, these same people view GHC staff as respected housing experts. We have a “seat at the table” with policy makers, non-profits, and busin

esses working with housing issues. We have been able to engage with leaders in sensitive topics such as racial discrimination in housing opportunities, and the relationship between health and substandard housing. The housing crisis, the economic crisis, and the interest in sustainability have created a wave of momentum for GHC’s influence.

One notice. A few hours.

And entire lives packed into large U-Hauls.

This week, families at a local Studio 6 were forced out overnight—leaving behind not just a place to stay, but a community they built together.

Kids grew up there. Families shared meals. It was home.

GHC showed up immediately—but the truth is, this will happen again. And we need to be ready.

For many families, rising housing costs mean making difficult choices. Some may have to choose between paying rent, buying groceries, or covering medical expenses. These trade offs can create long-term challenges and increase the risk of housing instability.

Stable housing allows families to focus on their health, education, and future.

At Greensboro Housing Coalition, we believe housing stability supports stronger communities.

This month, we recognize the strength and leadership of women in our community. It is also a time to remember the challenges many women still face.

In 2022, 154 women were experiencing homelessness in Guilford County, which includes Greensboro. They made up more than one-third of the 426 people counted without stable housing during the annual Point in Time count.

Women experiencing homelessness often face barriers like unsafe housing, domestic violence, rising rent, and limited access to resources. These numbers remind us that housing stability is still out of reach for many women in our community.

At Greensboro Housing Coalition, we believe safe and stable housing should be possible for everyone.

Housing shouldn’t disappear overnight—but when it does, our neighbors deserve immediate support.

After the sudden shutdown of The District apartments, 180 neighbors were displaced. In partnership with the City of Greensboro, the American Red Cross, and the Greensboro Police Department’s Behavioral Health Response Team - GHC helped ensure every resident had a safe place to go.

This is what it looks like when a community shows up - quickly, compassionately, and without hesitation. Your support for GHC helps make that possible when housing fails without warning, consider donating today!

Hello Friends! GHC is so grateful for the turnout of our 2025 Housing Summit: Advocacy in Action on October 16th at The Terrace. This event was presented graciously by our Presenting Sponsors Ms. Leslie Dunne Ketner & Mr. Robert C. Ketner. We are so grateful for their generous and gracious hearts - and for coming out for such an amazing event. We are also happy to announce that GHC raised over $30,000 this year, which is a direct reflection of the passion each attendee, sponsor, or general supporter of GHC holds.

We seen so many familiar faces, and many new ones - navigating the challenges of the different phases of our poverty, housing and re-entry simulation provided by our friends at The Department of Adult Corrections and the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce.

We had a great lunch full of networking and laughter, and more intimate moments for recognizing our generous sponsors. We also highlighted the future of housing for Greensboro, presented beautifully by Mr. Patrick Bowen of Bowen National Research.

We welcomed over 150 attendees, watching each of you navigate the complexities, move with a bit more intensity as each session progressed - and we seen the fire ignite in so many of you! We hope you will continue to take the tools you've learned and use them to continue the fight for safe, healthy, fair and affordable housing for all in Greensboro.

Please don't forget to check out the event photos at the link below, share with your networks and send in any photos you may have taken so we can share them as well!
