Frisky may be one of the most shy girls at the shelter, but she has just as much love to give ❤️

This gentle, timid 5-year-old girl weighs 37 lbs and arrived at the shelter frightened after coming from a difficult situation. New people and unfamiliar surroundings can still make her nervous, but she’s making progress every day.

She can initially come off as a little anxious, but with patience, she eventually can relax, and lays down beside our feet, politely seeking attention 🦮 She may need a little time to feel comfortable, but once she does, her sweet personality starts to shine.

Frisky has formed trusting relationships with some of her favorite staff members, and she becomes a completely different dog around the people she knows 🥰 We’re hoping her future adopter will be willing to give her that same patience, love and sense of safety so she can show them who she really is.

✅ Frisky came from a home with other pets, but because she is still feeling scared in the shelter, we always recommend a meet and greet with any resident dogs to make sure everyone is comfortable.

At 3 months old, Little Mary Sunshine is completely blind & needs someone to show her how good life can be 🩷

A good samaritan brought Mary to a local vet after finding her in serious condition, and she was later brought to the shelter. Because of a severe eye infection, both of her eyes had to be removed. The infection was so extensive that we can’t share the photos, but we can tell you that this little girl has been through a lot.

Despite everything, Mary is still here, still fighting and still deserving of a life filled with comfort, affection and safety 🐾 She is completely blind, which means she cannot safely live outside or be expected to defend herself, but still leans in and cuddles like any other kitten.

Blind cats often adapt incredibly well, especially when they have a consistent environment. Keeping their food, water and litter box in familiar places, sticking to a routine and giving them time to learn their surroundings can help them feel secure 🐈 With a little extra consideration, blind cats can still play, cuddle, explore and enjoy all the things that make them happy.

Little Mary Sunshine has already fought hard enough, and deserves someone who will give her a loving home where she can finally just be a kitten.

Ice Hill finally got to see what life outside the shelter is like again, & after 100+ days, he’s ready to be adopted ❤️

Ice Hill is a 7-year-old, 70 lb boy who came to us when his owner had to move and couldn’t take him along 🥺 One of the very first notes written about him described him as a “super sweet boy with a big ole smile,” and we’d say that’s still one of the best ways to describe him.

If you’re looking for a lower-energy companion, Ice Hill is your guy. He walks beautifully on leash, loves leisurely strolls with our volunteers and is happiest just spending time with his people 🐾 He recently got to go swimming and did absolutely amazing for a bath during an off-site outing.

His previous owner shared that he’s house trained, crate trained, doesn’t bark or whine much, and has done well with both children and other animals 🐶 Ice Hill also recently got to spend time in a home, where he loved cuddling up and enjoying some well-deserved comfort outside the shelter.

Ice Hill has already proven he knows how to be a wonderful family dog. Now he’s in foster care, where he can continue enjoying the quieter side of life while he waits for a family to call his own.

Adoption update 🥳 Mac spent over a week wandering Greensboro with a missing tail… but he didn’t stay at the shelter long.

Mac, formerly known as Zoro, was found roaming around several Greensboro streets with a limp, an injured tail and a few other health issues 😕 He was underweight, dealing with a skin condition and had no microchip or known owner to help us figure out where he came from.

Thankfully, he was sweet and cooperative when our ACO finally caught up with him. He took treats, allowed himself to be leashed and stayed right by their side.

These days, Mac’s life looks VERY different 😍 His adopters are some of the most active parents on Guilford County Animal Services Alumni , and they absolutely love this boy. He goes on adventures with them, tags along wherever he can and has become a very important part of the family.

He also recently tested negative for heartworms and is healthy as can be, which is pretty great news for a dog who had so much going on when he first arrived.

From wandering the streets alone to being included in just about everything, Mac is clearly making up for lost time 🩷

Adopted 🥳 Shirley is looking for a home… and she’s dog-friendly, cat-friendly and cuddle-ready ❤️🐾

Shirley is a 10-month-old puppy who came to us after her owner could no longer afford her care. She recently moved into foster care, where she’s getting to show off her sweet, goofy personality while she waits for a home of her own.

✅ Shirley loves playing with both cats AND dogs in her foster home, and she’s incredibly gentle when interacting with them 🥰 She can be a little timid at times and is still building her confidence, but she’s making progress in a comfortable environment where she can take things at her own pace.

Shirley is house trained and crate trained, and she’s comfortable having her ears and nails handled without putting up a fuss. When playtime is over, she’s more than happy to sleep, cuddle and enjoy some quiet time with her people 🩷

Shirley is a sweet, goofy young dog who has already made a great start in foster care. She’s ready for a family who will continue helping her build confidence while giving her plenty of affection, playtime and cozy places to nap.

With her gentle nature and growing list of good house-dog skills, she’ll have a smooth transition into her new home.

These shelter dogs are looking for adopters and a canine sibling or two 👀🐾

They’ve absolutely loved making new buddies along the way, but are ready for homes. Several of these dogs are currently in foster care, where they’re probably hanging out with another pet right now 🐶

If you have a dog at home, our staff can also help you arrange a dog-to-dog test with a shelter dog before adoption to see how they get along. We can’t cat test dogs at the shelter, but our foster homes can help us learn more about how they do with cats.

Dutchess likely had a tough and tiring life before the shelter… and she’s still waiting for a family 🖤

Dutchess is a 3-year-old, 57 lb girl who is looking for a home after being found wandering as a stray and taken in by a good samaritan who could no longer care for her.

She’s a shelter dog who makes everything feel a little calmer. Dutchess is patient, gentle and easy to handle, following your lead quietly on 🐕‍🦺 She has a mellow personality and is perfectly happy entertaining herself with a toy or rolling around in the grass, but she’s especially happy when someone is giving her belly rubs and attention.

Dutchess is incredibly gentle when taking treats and loves being spoken to. She also seems to be house trained and has shown that she’s pretty unbothered by the other animals around her ✅ She doesn’t react to the dogs in the kennels around her and wasn’t bothered at all when she saw three cats hanging out in our lobby.

Dutchess appears to have had multiple litters in the past, and now she deserves a chance to simply be a dog and enjoy some peace and consistency of her own 🐾 She’s ready for a home or foster where she can relax, get plenty of affection and be someone’s easygoing companion.

Our animals love cozy towels, blankets, stinky treats, cat toys and anything that makes a day at the shelter a little more comfortable. Our staff and volunteers go through these supplies quickly, keeping hundreds of animals fed, clean, entertained and comfortable while they wait for homes.

Apple Butter is available for adoption, & she comes with a happy dance and a love for other dogs ❤️

Apple Butter was found as a skinny stray, but this 3-year-old, 48 lb girl has gained so much confidence since arriving at the shelter.

Apple Butter needed some encouragement when she first arrived, but once she realized she was safe, her sweet personality started to shine 🐾 She’s calm and affectionate, loves being pet and is always happy to settle in for some snuggles 🥰 When she gets excited, she even has a little happy dance that makes an appearance.

She also seems to genuinely enjoy training and already knows sit, shake, down and fetch. Fetch is especially fun because Apple Butter brings her toys right back and is happy to share them ✅ She recently got to run the fence with a canine buddy and had a great time, and she seems very interested in making friends with the other dogs at the shelter or a home.

As much as Apple Butter has grown here, the shelter environment is starting to wear on her 😕 She’s ready for a home where she can continue building confidence and leave the shelter behind.

Carol is a sweet green-eyed puppy who is still waiting at the shelter for a place to call home 💚

Carol came to us as a stray at 1 year old after being found roaming around a retirement home. She was friendly from the start, although she was a little timid and needed some time to warm up.

Once she gets comfortable, her playful and affectionate personality really comes out ✅ She’s been dog tested and does well with other dogs, although she can get pretty excited, so she’d love a playful canine buddy who can keep up with her.

Carol recently got a day away from the shelter and loved getting to be a normal dog 🐾 She had a blast with toys, happily gathering her favorites into a pile and playing fetch with her volunteer. She brings toys back gently and is happy to hand them over so the game can continue 🦮 She also loved exploring while making sure her person was still nearby, showing just how much she values having someone she can trust.

Once she settled in at home, Carol was incredibly well mannered. She had no accidents, relaxed easily and enjoyed being affectionate without needing to be attached to someone every second. She knows sit and picked up down quickly, so she’s clearly a smart girl who enjoys learning ❤️ Carol does have a slight cherry eye, which will be corrected before going home.

Carol is a fun, affectionate young dog who would thrive with a family that can give her plenty of time, attention and reassurance.
