Did you know NCCJ is part of a national network?

Last week, NCCJ Executive Director Kelly Dawson traveled to Dayton, Ohio for the annual gathering of the National Federation for Just Communities (NFJC), a network of organizations from across the country working to build more inclusive and just communities.

Kelly joined executive directors, board members, and program staff from organizations across the country to share ideas, learn from one another, and talk about the opportunities and challenges facing this work in our communities. Most of the organizations in the network share a common history as former NCCJs, making this an especially valuable space to learn from peers doing similar work in different parts of the country.

Kelly also had the opportunity to share some of the work happening right here at NCCJ in the Triad, and she came home with plenty of ideas and new connections.

Anytown 2027 is officially on the calendar! 💙

There’s nothing quite like an Anytown summer, and we’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year.

☀️ Session 1: June 20–25, 2027
☀️ Session 2: July 18–23, 2027

Applications will open in the coming months, so for now, save the dates and start thinking about the young people in your life who should experience Anytown next summer.

NCCJ is hosting our first bar takeover on Tuesday, September 22nd. Join us downtown Greensboro at The Pyrle from 6-8 pm. Isaiah Oglesby, one of this year’s dinner co-chairs, and Anytown advisor Ivey Ghee will serve as official bar takeover guides! 1618 on Location is sponsoring this event with light nosh. This event is 18+ and a wonderful way to introduce NCCJ to friends who may not know much about what we do.

The Pyrle is a new music venue and bar on Elm Street in the former Triad Stage location at 232 South Elm Street. Parking is available in the lot across from Natty Greene’s (free after 5 pm), on the street (also free after 5 pm), and in the Greene Street parking deck at Greene and Washington (small fee).

Bring your friends! Bring strangers! Tell your people! We hope to see you there.

At NCCJ, young people build leadership skills, challenge themselves, learn from one another, and create community with people who may see the world differently than they do.

Anytown is just the beginning. Through our Youth Ambassador Program, young people have opportunities to keep learning, leading, building relationships, and making an impact in their communities all year long.

It takes a pretty incredible team to do this work. 💙

Last week, our NCCJ contract facilitators came together for our annual kickoff, a chance to reconnect, prepare for the year ahead, and spend some time learning together.

These are some of the people who help bring NCCJ programs to life throughout our community. They facilitate meaningful conversations, build spaces where people can learn from one another, and bring so much experience, care, and heart to every room they enter.

Last week, we welcomed a new group to ACRE, the Alamance County Racial Equity Collaborative.

ACRE is a 12-week program that runs from August through December, bringing together people from across Alamance County to learn, build relationships, and deepen their understanding of the history and experiences that have shaped their community.

Over the next several months, this cohort will learn from local leaders and community members, explore Alamance County’s history, engage in meaningful conversations, and consider how each of us can help build a more equitable community.

We’re excited to spend the next 12 weeks learning alongside this group.

Home is the theme for our 60th Annual Citation Award Dinner on November 12.

Last week, we started filming for the dinner when we will honor Kathyrn Hubert as NCCJ's first Rising Changemaker. We are so excited to celebrate her contributions, and also honor the lifetime achievements of Joyce Hobson Johnson (The Beloved Community Center) and Mitchel Sommers (former Executive Director of the Community Theatre of Greensboro).
