We pause today to remember Captain Raymond Cockman, who lost his life in the line of duty on June 14, 1987. Beyond his esteemed reputation as a fire officer, he was a deeply cherished family man, a passionate golfer, and a cheerful prankster. His brother, Retired Battalion Chief Larry Cockman, was alongside him that day and proudly ensures that Raymond's legacy is never forgotten.

On this day in 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, to fight N**i Germany.

The Professional Fire Fighters of Greensboro pause to honor the incredible courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of those who answered the call on D-Day. Many of those young soldiers left everything behind to face unimaginable odds for the cause of freedom.

We especially remember the first responders, fire fighters, and everyday citizens who stepped out of their communities and into uniform to serve our country during World War II. Their legacy of service, bravery, and dedication to a cause greater than themselves is something we strive to carry forward every single day on the lines.
