Thank you!

Every emergency begins with a voice on the other end of the line.

During Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we recognize our partners at Wayne County Emergency Communications, the FIRST first responders.

They are the unseen heroes who answer the call when it matters most, bringing calm to chaos and ensuring help is on the way.

Thank you for all you do!

“Why is the fire department here? I called for an ambulance…”

In many emergencies, fire departments are dispatched as first responders alongside EMS. This means they may arrive before the ambulance.

Why?
🚒 They are often closer to your location
⏱️ They can start care immediately
🚑 They help ensure you get the fastest possible response

Even though you called for an ambulance, sending the closest available help can make a critical difference.

We work as a team to get help to you as quickly as possible.

From our families to yours. Enjoy your day together!

This week, we hosted three separate training sessions with our volunteer fire agencies to ensure they’re prepared for improved radio communications in the coming months.

Strong communication saves time — and lives.

Thank you to our assisting partners, Integrated Public Safety Commission - Indiana, Wayne County Emergency Management Agency , Ritter Strategic Services, and J&K Communications, Inc. for their support and collaboration in making these trainings possible.

Local Snow Emergency Declaration- Level II (Travel Watch)

At 9:00 PM on January 24, 2026, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners declared a Level II Snow Emergency (Travel Watch) for Wayne County, including the City of Richmond and the Town of Centerville. This declaration will remain in effect until 12:00 PM on January 26, 2026, unless extended by the Board of Commissioners.

A Level II Snow Emergency means only essential travel is permitted on county roads. This declaration does not apply to state or federal highways.

Essential travel includes:
• Travel to and from work or school
• Travel to obtain necessary medical care
• Travel to obtain prescription medications
• Travel to obtain essential food or fuel
• Travel to obtain safe shelter
• Travel by emergency vehicles and emergency personnel

Drivers traveling for essential purposes must use extreme caution and adjust driving behavior for hazardous conditions. Travel times may be significantly longer than normal. Use main roads when possible and allow extra time to reach your destination. Motorists who become stranded risk injury due to exposure. Avoid unnecessary travel.

Non-essential travel is prohibited.
Violators may be fined up to $150 under Indiana Code 10-14-3-34. Knowingly, intentionally, or recklessly violating this order is a Class B misdemeanor.

Parking is prohibited on all county roads and within the county road right-of-way. Vehicles that are parked, stalled, stranded, or abandoned in violation of this order may be removed at the owner’s expense.

For emergency assistance, call 9-1-1.
