East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation

East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation The East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation honors, preserves and celebrates the maritime history of the East End of Long Island

In Greenport, we operate the East End Seaport Museum on the waterfront with its maritime exhibits and collections. Our blacksmith conducts demonstrations of iron working with hands-on experiences for children at the Village Blacksmith Shop. Offshore - we own, operate, and maintain the historic Long Beach Bar (Bug) Lighthouse. Bug Light is the gateway to Greenport, Shelter Island, and Peconic Bay and we are proud to be the stewards of this working navigational structure.

⚓️ MARITIME WEEKEND IS ALMOST HERE!

We’re just two weeks away from the 36th Annual Greenport Maritime Festival, September 25–27!

The weekend kicks off Friday night with the Land & Sea Gala, taking place on the Green at Mitchell Park for the first time ever. Come sip, snack, dance, and celebrate Greenport’s maritime history as we honor this year’s Grand Marshal, Dave Abatelli, for his many years of service to our village, the East End Seaport Museum, and the Maritime Festival. Tickets are available online at greenportmaritimefestival.com

Then Saturday & Sunday, the village comes alive with the Maritime Parade, live music, contests, family activities, food, local vendors, and plenty of waterfront fun. Saturday and Sunday are FREE and open to the public!

The Visit Greenport Village | North Fork will also have a table at the festival! If you’re a local business within the BID district and would like us to share your marketing materials, menus, cards, upcoming events, or other information at our table, please email the BID to coordinate drop-off.

It’s one of Greenport’s biggest weekends of the year, and we can’t wait to celebrate our village and the businesses that make it what it is.

Some ships don’t just visit a harbor, they become part of its story.

Our friends aboard the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation sailed into Greenport this morning and are preparing for another week of unforgettable voyages on the waters that have shaped generations of mariners.

Maritime Fun Fact: Greenport has been a working waterfront for centuries, where shipbuilders, whalers, fishermen, and merchant vessels all played a role in the East End’s rich maritime legacy. Seeing a traditional tall ship under sail is a reminder that this history isn’t just something we preserve, it’s something we can still experience.

We’re always proud to welcome the Kalmar Nyckel back to Greenport Harbor. If you’ve never stepped aboard a tall ship, this week is the perfect opportunity.

Fair winds, and we’ll see you at the dock!
