❤️ Teamwork that saved a life.

This morning, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital proudly recognized Carlos Miller, RN, and Joseph Tilton, PCT, with Life Saver Awards for their quick thinking and teamwork when a patient began choking.

“When they realized the patient was choking, they recognized the emergency and responded without hesitation, ultimately saving the patient’s life,” said Annalisa Monahan, DNP, MHA, MSN, RN-BC, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services. “In situations like this, seconds matter.”

Carlos accepted the recognition on behalf of himself and Joseph, who was unable to attend.

“I appreciate the acknowledgement,” Carlos said. “This teamwork is what we work toward every day.”

Their actions are an extraordinary example of the awareness, training and teamwork our Patient Care team brings to SBELIH every day.

💜 Taking Action to Help Save Lives

Last week, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, community members gathered at The North Fork Shack in Southold for a free Narcan training focused on giving people the knowledge and tools to respond when an overdose occurs.

Led by CASJ, participants learned how to recognize the signs of an overdose, administer Narcan (naloxone) and connect individuals and families with recovery resources available on the North Fork. Free Narcan kits were also distributed so attendees left prepared to help if they are ever faced with an overdose emergency.

A special thank you to ELIH Foundation Board Member Samy Sabil, owner of The North Fork Shack, for generously hosting the event and helping us create an inviting space for this important community conversation.

International Overdose Awareness Day reminds us that awareness matters, education empowers and each of us can play a role in helping save a life. 💜
