Please, welcome our new Firewise Community Leads Greg and Nicole Hubbell! We are very excited to have them jump on board.

Greg works for the US Forest Service on the Hotshot crew and his fire experience will be invaluable to Firewise projects within the community.

Nicole has a ton of experience with planning activities and rounding folks up from her employment at Greenhorn Ranch and the Central Plumas Recreation and Park District.

Together, they make a great team and we have faith that they will help us get moving in the right direction as a Firewise Community!

They will also be looking for others to help on the committee so if you are interested, send them an email at [email protected]

For Wildfire Awareness Month we want to remind Plumas County residents and property owners to sign up for Code Red!

Code Red is the counties rapid emergency notification service called. The system will distribute emergency messages via telephone to targeted areas or the entire county at a rate of 1,000 calls per minute. By registering, you'll be added to the emergency call list.

Plumas County residents are welcome and encouraged to enter their contact information for home, business, and mobile phones so they may be contacted by the system in the event of an emergency. If you are a family or friend and live out of the area, you can also sign up for the system. Example: You have a child attending school at FRC, you can sign up using your child's address and receive alerts.

“Last summer, Plumas County was affected by wildfire like never before. Because we love this place, we're raising money for a local organization that works to prevent, and prepare for, wildfires. Plumas County Firesafe Council is a local non-profit organization that reduces losses from wildfire through community programs and pre-fire activities. Your tax-deductible donations through this fundraiser will support continued activities to create fire-resilient communities in Plumas County.”

If you haven’t already, meet our new Firewise Community Lead Alesia Marshall!

“Alesia has been a member of the Greenhorn Creek Volunteer Fire Department for a few years now and has proven her dedication to her community in the countless hours of service she has provided protecting it.

The Firewise Lead position is one that takes a committed and involved individual to truly make the program work efficiently and I believe Alesia is capable of being that person. She already has been, and will continue to be a valuable asset to our community and as a department, we look forward to supporting her in her new role.”

- Fire Chief Tyson Rael
