📚Book recommendation📚I enjoyed reading (listening to) Thomas Sowell’s book “Basic Economics,” a common-sense plain English guide to the economy.

It’s a deep dive into capitalism vs. socialism; incentives vs. constraints; what sounds good vs. what works:

👉It’s amazing what free people can accomplish in a free economy. It’s worth not taking for granted.

👉It’s amazing what lengths some will go to to convince us that that they can make better decisions with our money than we can ourselves. Or that something can be “free” if the government redistributes it or controls it.

👉And it’s important to know the difference.

If you’re like me and want to better understand how decisions made by our government affect how our economy works and our lives, I highly recommend this book.

It poses some important questions:

👉”What must be asked about any goal is: what specific things are going to be done in the name of that goal?”

👉”What does the particular legislation or policy reward and what does it punish? What constraints does it impose?”

👉”Looking to the future, what are the likely consequences of such incentives and constraints?”

👉”Looking back at the past, what have been the consequences of similar incentives and constraints in other times and places?”

Thank you, Hancock County! This honor reflects a team effort: everyone who’s given me the chance to serve our district, shared your candid thoughts, prayers or support. I’m grateful.
