HANCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPT INVESTIGATES FATAL CRASH
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed northeast of Greenfield.
Just before 10:00PM on March 24, 2026, members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department were called to the 755 block of west County Road 300 North, near the intersection of County Road 100 West and County Road 300 North, Hancock County. Deputies arrived on scene and called for the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.) to respond because of the severity of the crash.
The crash involved a pedestrian, Mr. Jaden Pelton, a 25-year-old male from Fishers, Indiana, and a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Mr. Michael Davis, 19, of Greenfield, Indiana. Initial findings indicate Mr. Pelton was not in a vehicle, crossing County Road 300 North, when he was struck by the Hyundai Sonata. Despite lifesaving measures by officers and arriving medical personnel, Mr. Pelton was pronounced deceased on-scene. His family has been notified. The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, Mr. Davis, was not injured.
The Hyundai Sonata was traveling west on County Road 300 North, possibly passing another west bound vehicle, when it struck Mr. Pelton. Mr. Davis was the only occupant and driver of the Sonata, stayed on the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
Mr. Davis agreed to a chemical test as routine part of the fatal crash investigation and provided a statement for investigators. At the scene, drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor. He was released from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
County Road 300 North was closed for a about 3 hours while the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated. Officers from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Greenfield Police Department, New Palestine Police Department, Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office, Hancock County Coroner’s Office, Hancock County 911 Center, and Greenfield Fire Territory, all assisted in this incident.
