When I worked in my parents' store as a kid, if things were slow and there were no customers at the moment - we went out front and kept the sidewalk clear. We didn't expect the town to do it. Now I work in Greenfield on the 3rd floor at 278 Main Street and I still feel that same sense of pride in making our clients feel welcome and cared for. On Sunday I did just that, I made a nice, big opening in the ice wall in front of our building. Dale

It's official - we have an election.

It is official – we have two candidates running for the position of “Fourth Member” on the board. On Thursday of this week, signatures on the nomination papers of David R. Gendron, and Kevin P. Fox were verified and certified, thereby making it official.

My visit to Worcester Regional included a visit with PERAC auditors, Jim and Scott, with both of whom I enjoy talking about a wide variety of retirement issues. Scott was auditing us in the latter part of the summer, and like always, we had good conversations. I look forward to having the auditors come, because it is an opportunity to get focused feedback on our work - from people who have lots of experience, and bring new insights and new ideas. Jim was not with us this summer, and when we do meet up we have great discussions. However, it is often in a crowd, so it was nice to have the space to discuss more deeply. Thanks guys.

Just recently I made a visit to Worcester Regional Retirement to "talk shop" with Colleen and Vicky. We talked for a number of hours about all sorts of things - elections, collecting and auditing annual salaries, entering and verifying deductions, reconciling ledgers to cashbooks to members' supp - but most impressive was the outreach they do. Kevin makes connections with the membership and units in all sorts of ways - meetings, info sessions - which then creates the opportunity to set-up individual retirement counseling sessions in each unit with their employees. A few weeks ahead, they fill-up a day's worth of fifteen-minute sessions. Then in preparation, they review each member's file and do estimates, and then bring all those files to the unit's location and have a one-on-one conversation with each person that signed-up. In fact, Kevin was at one of the units the day I visited so I missed time with him but that didn't diminish the visit - Colleen and Vicky were great to talk with. I liked hearing their approach to the same issues and processes that we
deal with - if there is one thing I've learned over the years - it's that there is always room for improvement. Thanks Colleen and Vicky.
