Across Indiana, township trustees are often the quiet helpers of their communities — serving neighbors in moments of crisis, providing aid during financial hardship, supporting fire and emergency services, and making sure no one faces difficult times alone.

Township government is more than a level of local government — it’s neighbors helping neighbors.

Every day, township officials work behind the scenes to strengthen communities, connect residents to resources, and provide compassionate service where it matters most. Whether it’s emergency assistance, community support, or helping families navigate challenging times, township trustees continue to make a real difference in the lives of Hoosiers across our state.

The Indiana Township Association is proud to support the dedicated township leaders who serve their communities with professionalism, compassion, and commitment.

Strong Townships. Strong Indiana.

Now that the election is over, I encourage everyone to get involved and stay informed. One of the best ways we can work together to strengthen our township is to follow township updates, ask questions, share feedback, and attend local meetings whenever possible. Your participation and input help ensure that decisions are made with the best interests of our township in mind.

📆 Over the past three and a half years, we have consistently attended county council, commissioner, and redevelopment committee meetings each month. Meeting dates and times are published weekly in the Greenfield Reporter. These meetings are open to the public, and we would love to see greater township representation and community involvement at these meetings.

It has been an honor to serve as your Township Trustee. I have worked hard to prepare, learn, and lead with the best interests of Buck Creek Township in mind.

I respectfully ask for your support and your vote so I may continue serving and building on the progress we have made together. My commitment remains the same—serving our residents with integrity, accountability, and dedication.

Our Township Trustee’s Office is proud to care for nine historic pioneer cemeteries, preserving the stories, heritage, and final resting places of those who helped shape our community. These sacred grounds are more than just cemeteries—they are pieces of our shared history, maintained with respect and dedication.

As our responsibilities continue to grow, we may soon take on the care of three additional pioneer cemeteries. While this expansion reflects trust in our work, it also highlights the increasing need for resources, planning, and community support to ensure each site receives the attention it deserves.

Maintaining these cemeteries means honoring the past while serving the present. We remain committed to protecting these landmarks for future generations and welcome community interest, involvement, and awareness as we move forward.

I humbly ask for your vote so I can continue the positive work that has begun in our township.

Under Indiana law (IC 36-6-4 and IC 12-20), the most fundamental responsibility of a Township Trustee is serving as the administrator of township assistance—ensuring that residents in need receive timely, essential support.

This means providing emergency relief such as food, housing, utilities, and medical assistance to those who have exhausted all other options. It’s one of the most visible and important roles of the office: helping neighbors in their time of greatest need.

But the responsibilities of a Township Trustee go well beyond assistance. The role also includes:

Ensuring reliable fire protection and emergency ambulance services.
Serving as the township’s chief financial officer, managing budgets, funds, and responsible spending. Maintaining and caring for township cemeteries, including those that have been abandoned. Overseeing township records, property, and daily operations.

The position of Township Trustee is defined entirely by Indiana law, with clear duties and responsibilities focused on service, accountability, and community well-being.

As your Trustee, I take each of these responsibilities seriously—because this role is about more than managing government functions. It’s about serving people, protecting resources, and strengthening our community.

A strong fire department doesn’t happen by accident—it takes time, leadership, planning, and the right partnerships.

As Township Trustee, I worked alongside our Fire Chief in 2024 to support and promote the first-ever Buck Creek Township Fire Department Recruit class. Recruit classes help bring in and train the next generation of firefighters and EMTs. Our second-ever recruit class will begin this summer, led by our new Division Chief of Training, Jeff Cheshire. With over 24 years of experience, Jeff has ensured that all our new firefighters are in good hands.

Since taking office in 2023, we’ve made significant progress—growing our team from just 21 career firefighters to 35 today, with an additional 6 set to join us in June.

The Trustees' role in this is to ensure the resources, funding, and community support are in place to make those efforts successful.

By working together, we’re building a pipeline of dedicated, well-trained personnel ready to serve Buck Creek Township.

That’s the kind of leadership I believe in—supporting our departments, investing in people, and making sure our community is prepared not just for today, but for the future.
