Invasive Plant of the Week Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata)

Garlic mustard is an invasive species that can spread quickly and crowd out the native wildflowers and plants that make our natural areas so special.

A few ways to spot it:
• Leaves smell like garlic when crushed
• Rounded, scalloped leaves
• Small white 4-petal flowers

If you spot it early, you can help protect local woods, parks, and backyard habitats.

Had our 72nd Soil and Water Conservation District Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 10. Excellent evening, beautiful weather. 55 in attendance. Wonderful catered meal from Joyce Holmes of Hometown Catering. Gerald Mercer was sworn in as one of our Board Members. Laughter and education on Watersheds and the triva mystery of who was the environmentalist culprit. For those that attended that last clue was SWEET TEA. I missed telling you that. But you all figured it out! Jane Hardisty spoke about Watersheds, the State Soil Conservation Board and the importance and value of Indiana’s local SWCD Boards. Chandler Keown spoke about Farm Service Agency loans that landowners can get at Greenfield Banking Company. Perfect Annual Meeting! Thank you to our speakers and to everyone that attended!
