Mental Health America of Putnam County We provide mental health awareness to Putnam County through advocacy, education, collaboration, supp MHAoPC has seen change in affiliation too.

Whether it be helping folks seeking out services/resources, educating our children about important mental health issues, or sharing knowledge and tools for better mental health to the public, Mental Health America of Putnam County is here to serve you. Started in 1954 as the National Association of Mental Health, we've seen our name change from Mental Health Association to the national title of Me

ntal Health America. For many years, we were affiliated through Mental Health America of Indiana. In 2016, however, we applied and were officially granted affiliation directly with the national organization. MHAoPC provides the following programs for the members of the Putnam County Community:

Helping Children/Co-Parenting (HCCP) - a program designed to assist parents and children offset potential negative impacts of separation by showing them how to develop and maintain healthy relationships. MHAoPC "Puppet Power" Program - an educational puppet program offered in all County schools from pre-school to fifth grade. The program puppeteers are students from the local middle and high schools who work closely with school counselors and perform different programs for each grade level. The subjects covered by the programs are child abuse prevention, children's body rights, self-confidence, tobacco education, incorrect prescription drug use, strategies on coping with bullying behavior, and child safety geared to pre-school and kindergarten students. This program is also offered to non-school organizations, such as scouts and church groups. Puppet Power has been in place for more than 10 years and the concept of children reaching children has been very successful. Last Thursday, Greencastle Mayor Linda Dunbar signed a declaration officially proclaiming May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month! This was a way for the City of Greencastle to publicly show support for behavioral health programs and initiatives. 💚
